Does anyone out there own both the Tamla 54030 and Tamla 54049 versions of "What makes you love him", by Singin' Sammy Ward? 54030 was quickly withdrawn, and the song replaced with "Who's the fool" - shrewd move, as it got Ward his only hit! I have never heard the 54030 version - is it different and if so how (roughly)? NB the version on the Blue Evolution CD seems to be 54049 with the opening acapella line omitted. Another thing I would like to clarify is: Don McKenzie - I've been told that the promo and commercial versions of "Whose heart are you gonna break now" are different. I only have the promo - can anyone who has both tell me if they're different, and if so how? Thanks Keith |

kh: the Don McKenzie on Miracle 10 features the Supremes on background vocals and yes you are correct both of them are different takes but sound very very similar as they are from the same session. the Sammy Ward on Tamla 54049 is a re-make of "What Makes You Love Him" recorded a year earlier on 54030-1 and was as you mentioned replaced.the sound between the two recordings is very different ...all of Motown's records took a quality step up after Mike McLean became cheif engineer in 1961 |
