There is a jamming Staples commercial using the Spinner's hit song "RubberBand Man". The choreography is slammin and the dancer in the commercial is fabulous! Has anyone seen it and/or does anyone have any information about the commericial itself? Always, Arcadia |

Hi Arcadia, It's Office Max. I'm happy that they used that song on that commercial, so that all of us musicians who played on that song can get our little residuals.(smile) The rhythm section was as follows: Andrew Smith-Drums Bob Babbit-Bass Thom Bell-Keys Bobby Eli-Guitar Bill Neale-Guitar Ed Shea-Vibes Larry Washington-Percussion |

You know, that's what I LOVE about SD! You not only get a great (and informative) response, but, one in the form of the "first person". Eli, thank you so very much for the information and the breakdown of musicians. Congratulations on a song that I still spin in my car and it makes me feel so SO good! Warmest regards, A- |

Hi Arcadia,(nice name, by the way) We had tons of fun recording that track. Babbitt had this contraption for his bass that was some sort of bass synthesizer stomp box and I had a device as well that contributed to that "rubbery sound" We all miss Andy Smith by the way. he was a great guy with a wicked sense of humour. He was quite a young guy back then and he was only 39 when he passed.(RIP) |

Another Philly classic getting much-deserved play in a Office Max commercial! Homeboy was dancing his A#$ off, wasn't he! I need to listen the rest of the tracks from off the album "Happiness Is Being With The Spinners" (Atlantic-1976), which "Rubberband Man" was from. Cute cartoonish cover, don't cha agree? |

Lemme tell ya: That album mentioned above, is undoubtly my FAVORITE by the SPINNERS...everysong on that album is a classic, and it also contains my favorite Spinners song 'Youre All I Need In Life'. The metaphoric genius of Phillpe Wynne comes alive at the end of the song...man they jsut dont make 'em like Phillpe anymore...right Bobby Eli? Whenthey put this album in CD, I RAN to go get it...just like the First Choice cd 'Delusions'another *smoker* Bobby Eli is on. |

Thanks Dyva! Nosey, payments to musicians for jingles are not much, by comparison, and its usually a one time payment unless of course you are the writer and /or publisher, in which case you would be payed quarterly and HANDSOMELY! My friend Len Barry co wrote his hit 123, and needless to say heis very happy right about now due to its heavy rotation in that milk commercial. When its all said and done, he stands to make a mid six figure payday. |

Caleb, you're right, it was Tony and myself. Bill Neale came onto scene several years later. |
