A friend of mine just dropped this new CD on me by a guy named, Ricky Fante. This cat is off the hook! The CD contains some great grooves, MELODIES and a voice that channels Otis Redding mixed with Sam Cooke. He's already been on GMA, VH1 and some other shows. For you SDFers in Philly, Fante will be performing at the North Star Bar on August 24. The record's called Rewind and he's on Virgin Records. The website: www.rickyfante.net
Note: He played Marvin Gaye in the Temptations movie. Anybody else got some info on him?

Hi Chi Drummer,

I like the cd. It's one of the pleasant surprises of this year. Good singing, good melodies and real instruments backing him up.

However, I think comparisons to Otis Redding and Sam Cooke are highly exaggerated. It always seems to happen with these new artists. The PR guys (in this case Virgin) take the names from the past that everybody knows and tell us that here we have a new Messiah, a singer of the same calibre, the new saviour of soul.
The closest I can think of in Ricky's case is Terence Trent D'arby.

He's already stated that his next cd will be more hip hop, so I think after this Rewind cd we've lost him.
I was planning to interview him, but now I think I'll skip it.

Best regards
Heikki

That's disappointing to hear. Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston have already gone down that road with bad results (IMHO). I hadn't thought about D'arby, Heikki you're right. Still he might be worth interviewing. Maybe you can change his mind.

Hi Chi Drummer,

I wish I could change his mind, but it's the Virgin people that decide. I think the same thing is happening with Joss Stone. The people, who are running bigger companies these days, are not musically inclined.

Best regards
Heikki
