Whoever decides on the nominees and inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should come up with Bobby Womack's name, if they haven't done so already. There are tons of people in this forum who knows the history of Bobby much deeper that I do, but from what I know of his history: being discovered by and recording with Sam Cooke, his hits with the Valentinos, his songwriting abilities (he probably could live off the royalities from "It's All Over Now" and "Breezin'" alone), his great work with Gabor Szabo, and his outstanding solo career, I think he's due for consideration. Any takers on this?

I thought he was in the HOF! That's wrong! I mean are they waiting for him to die or something and then give it to him? His influence is heard EVERYWHERE! PLEEASE let me be the first to start a petition!

I sure as hell wish the Hall of Lame would recognize him!

Think of all of Bobby's accomplishments as a songwriter, session musician, vocalist, etc.--surely, it is equal to or more than a lot of the folks already in there.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for him to appear on this year's ballot or next, but ya never know. A petition would be a good idea (I've already seen and signed a petition to see that the Hollies get their due, and I'm willing to sign for anyone else who's deserving).

Best,

Mark

One thing for sure, he has one hell of a musical pedigree, dating back to the '60s. He's also a very down to earth, real performer. I think that his contributions should be recognized.

I posted recently about this man and his music. His performace on BET Jazz was captured live and he rocked the house. The DVD is a must have folks. Bobby was in rare form and sung all of his hits, the first words he told the crowd was "forget about being on TV" we are going to party. While watching the DVD I thought about all the various influences he's had on the music world from David Ruffin to Patti Labelle and I must agree that he is one of the last men standing and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

I got it from Rolling Stone Records. It's in the BET Jazz series of DVDs and is probably availible on Amazon ........I just happened upon it while looking for musical DVD's of soul artists which are few and far between. I paid nine bucks for it and his performance made the DVD worth $25. Thanks for asking and I hope you find it. By the way Soulseeker, I'm in Chicago if you are not familiar with the chain.

Thanks Kdubya and Phil. I love Bobby Womack. As a matter of fact he's in my current cd rotation. And believe it or not my kids like him too.
