Curious about a couple of names that either I or other people have mentioned in recent threads: Tierra and Chuck Brown & the Soul Searchers. In the case of Tierra, I wonder if the untimely end of their record label contributed to the end of their recording career. I know they did more than "Together"...didn't they also remake "La La Means I Love You" as well? Chuck Brown...what happened to him after that fantastic jam, "Bustin' Loose"? Maybe he made a lot of bread off all the dudes who've sampled this song! 'I feel like bustin' loose Gimme the bass, y'all, gimme the bass, y'all now' Best, Mark |

Mark, Chuck Brown is doing great! Besides making a ton of money from Nelly's record Hot in herre(Bustin Loose) he discovered and mentored the late Eva Cassidy who was imo one of the most soulful(on the real tip) white female singers out there who died and left a legacy of seven great cds some with Chuck Brown. Medusa, The Hughes Corporation will be on the PBS Disco show being taped on August 17th in Asbury Park, NJ. Major harris lives back in Richmond Va and works all the time. James Ingram is getting ready to do another project with Thom Bell. AWB work constantly and they are on Hall and Oates Rock and Soul tour with Michael Mc Donald. I was just with them on July 16th. |

Bobby, I might have known you knew Chuck Brown. Did you also know the producer of Bustin' Loose, Ralph Bates? |

Chi, Ralph Bates did not produce Bustin Loose. The producer was James Purdie and the exec was david carpin of Dancer productions. I was at the session, recorded at Sigma in 1979 but did not play on it. I was happy just to witness such a great session. I was also at the I need money session in 1984 at the Power Station in NYC, produced by Maxx Kidd. |

Must be a misprint. I used to own a 12" copy of B.L. that listed Bates as the Exec. Producer. This must be the same James Purdie that produced Ooh Suga Wooga for Frank Hooker and Positive People? |

Tierra tours regularly and has a huge folowing with the "Low Rider" crowd (that Spookey caters to). Shirley Murdock is doing "Mama" plays Benny Lattimore still tours & had a new release within the last 18 or so months. The Whispers are constantly on the road...probably don't have a record deal though Tevin Campbell is still waiting for his voice to change... |

Oh my God, Eli. Are you the Bobby Eli, the session musician from the Philly International days? Man, How are you. I have to go to my albums to remember all the stuff you've played on. Give me a brief list of some of the acts you've played with or recorded with. I remember the name from a lot of stuff. Your name is one of those names that musicians remember all the time. Are you still playing? |

The Whispers are set to do a US tour with the Temps, the O'Jays and (I think) the Four Tops. AWB still exist - they played a gig in Glasgow a few years ago although they're still US based. I'd guess a lot of these people are still around - they just don't have record deals. Davie |

Hello Submarine again! And what happens with these other artists? -Sylvia Smith (who recorded "Original Midnight Mama") -Frankie Redmond (who recorded "Fightin' To keep My head Above Water") -Angelo Bond (my favorite falseto solo vocalist, who recorded "Reach For The Moon" and the "Bondage" album) -Frantique (i knows "Strut Your Funky Stuff" was recorded in France, perhaps this act is french?) -Silk and Debra Henry (I knows they left PIR after working in a second unfinished album) -Rythm Heritage (I have hate his "Theme from SWAT", because i hate the policial TV series, but when i heard it without prejudices, I admit is a good band) -And the most deep soul voice in the PIR catalogue, after the late Johnny Williams: Anthony White. He dis something after his PIR and Salsoul days? Many thanks in advance Peace & Soul Food |

Well, I have to say that this thread is progressing rather nicely! I mentioned Tierra, which in turn got me to thinking about another artist on Boardwalk, Richard 'Dimples' Fields. Anyone know what he's been doing lately? Evelyn 'Champagne' King is touring with a bunch of her fellow disco acts (among them KC & the Sunshine Band and the Village People). She was supposed to have appeared on the bill here in Cleveland, but bowed out due to illness. Best, Mark |

B.T. Express still exists...don't know current members though. Denroy Morgan is working with his kids "Morgan Heritage" Angelo Bond I heard had passed...but someone here on SDF corrected me. I have no idea what he's doing now. ( I recently snagged a copy of "Bondage" & I am sooooo jazzed !!) Rhythm Heritage was made up of session guys and led by Michael Omartian. I don't recall most of the names from the liner notes, but it seems that Ed Greene and Wilton Felder were among the players . Omartian is now a major player in the Christian music field. |

Thanks, 1Wicked! Hope that somebody correct to you and says Angelo's livin! I had played thousands of times his delicate "Goodbay My Love"... Is a blend of the best of Smokey and the best of Curtis. Is Ed Greene the same that "Ed Green", keyboardist from Sigma Sound? About Felder & company (Crusaders and solo acts) i lost my interest after their first 80's album ("Standing Hall"???) with Joe Cocker, wich i give to my sister (a Joe Cocker fan!) Peace & Soul Food |

Mark The last time I heard the group Tierra they did a tour with other latino artist of 50's & 60's doowop/harmony groups about 3 yrs ago. Joyce Sims first lp was slammin', and made a second lp and just disappeared. Sandra Fever or Feva has been constantly releasing music, the last time I seen her was with George Clinton and P-Funk about 2 yrs ago doing pickup gigs. Curtis Blow has his own show doing interviews and spinning records. Tevin Campbell does tours abroad (i heard about his-.). Know one knows what Charles Wright & The 103rd Street Rhythm Band is up to, I have some buddies that lives on the westcoast and says they've never caught a show yet, unless they crawled underneath a rock and went to sleep?. Isn't Lulu an actress now over in the UK? Vickie, It's safe to say Sylvia has retired and runs her label Sugarhill Records with the help her some Joey. Manny, That's a good question, I always wondered what ever became of DEBRA HENRY of SILK? Don |

Chuck is still performing and for those not in the know, please do check his fabulous double DVD... It's available on the net sites... It's one DVD with DC bands (including a fabulous performance by E.U) paying respect to the man and the second DVD in the box is Chuck by himself with his big band... he starts with a smoking version of Mr Magic the Grover Washington classic... This DVD is smokin'!!! Shirley Murdock issued a GREAT CD two years ago called HOME... brilliant stuff (she's got a voice to die for) Wonder B If you mess with the 'fro, you gotta go! |

Hello everyone!!! Wicked: I saw B.T Express performing at a street fair on jamaica Ave a few years ago. It seems that the only original member left at that time was Bill Risbrook. I wonder whatever happened to original lead singer Barbara Joyce, who lived 3 blocks from me when she lived in the Atlantic Towers in Brownsville??? Soul Sister: The Whispers are KINGS!!! My wife walked down the aisle to their "I'm Gonna Make You My Wife". I got to meet them in their limo following a show with The Dells at The Beacon Theater. I'm proud to say that they were very humble & very cordial to their fans. The were surprised when I asked them why don't they sing songs like "You Are Number One" during their shows. I named some songs & they seemed shocked & pleased that I remembered them. The Dells & The Whispers are two of my all-time favorite groups!! Has everyone forgot about Chuck Browns work with The Soul Searchers??? Blow Your Whistle & We The People were two seriously funky jams back in the day!!! Now, does anyone know whats happening with these groups: Tomorrows Promise, The Fuzz & Jamm??? |

Sylvia Robinson lives in Englewood NJ (her longtime home) and has since sold or licensed the Sugarhill/Stang catalogue to Rhino Records here in the USA and to EMI in the UK. She still oversees her various publishing interests with the help of her son Joey Robinson. Sylvia's husband Joe Robinson is deceased). The group Tierra still records and tours throughout the West Coast. The group were one of many that were signed to Neil Bogart's Boardwalk Entertainment label (Neil co-founded Casablanca Records and prior to that ran the Buddah label). After Neil died of cancer in 1983, Boardwalk Entertainment was shut down and all the acts were released from their contracts. Kevin Goins - KevGo |
