Hi Catdaddy!! First let me say "I wuv you" LOL. When I read your inquiry, I was saying to myself, I have heard of this group, but can't remember the songs off hand. I did some surfing and listened to some snippets of the songs you asked about, and a BIG smile came to my face. Thank You for reminding me of something I have not heard in 28yrs. I don't really remember "Let Your Mind Be Free", but I do remember "Chance With You". WOW!! This group consisted of at one time, Billy Jones, Frankie Prescott and the late drummer, Yogi Horton, who played with any and everybody in the music industry(Moments, Whatnuats,Luther Vandross, Bob James, etc.) Catdaddy, they were also the ones that had a #9 hit in '74 with the remake of Gil Scott Heron's "In The Bottle", which I remember, but had not heard since it came out, I played a snippet on the web and my face lit up again! I liked both versions, but it seems that Brother to Brother's version got played more and it was BAD!!! See all it takes is a question from someone here and you gain a wealth of musical information. I was very young, but I remembered the songs, just could not remember the group who did them. Thank You, Thank You!!!! The title of the album, BTW is called "Let Your Mind Be Free" from 1976. There is a compilation cd with Brother to Brother and some other artists that I saw on a web site, when I go to the record store today, I might have to look that one up. I really want to hear "In The Bottle", right about now!!!! I have not tried it yet, but when I do learn how, I'm going to transfer some of my vinyl to cd!!!! |

Thanks again!! P.S. Wuv U2 Oops, I forgot. Thanks, too to SDF. Sorry, I was in a rush! (Message edited by Catdaddy on August 10, 2004) |

Hey Re Re, Converting to vinyl is time consuming but worthwhile. All you need is a turntable, mixer or pre-amp, a good computer with a soundcard like Soundblaster Audigy Platinum & some good Audio editing software. When you're ready, I can send you something to start with. Once you learn how to use it, it's a breeze. Catdaddy: They recorded for Turbo, which was part of Sylvia & Joe Robinsons All Platinum label. I'll check to see, as most of their catalog seems to now be licensed on their Sugarhill imprint. |

The lead singer for Brother to Brother was Michael Burton, who also wrote and produced for Sylvia Robinson's All Platinum Records and Philadelphia International, mainly with Phil Terry. |

Catdaddy: It seems as though none of their LPs have been released on CD. However, the following songs appear on the CD, "All Platinum Funk": I'm Gonna Take Your Love In The Bottle Chance With You Let Your Mind Be Free |

Yogi Horton and Frank Prescod played on some sessions with us over at Future Gold in Philly including some of the Temprees stuff ( Dedicated to..... and some others) John Gary Williams, Universal Mind as well as some more Redd Coach stuff around that time. They also played on my jean Knight and Premium stuff and Yogi continued working a lot with me after that, Mike Burton did some Philly stuff with us. I think he co wrote one of the Eddie Kendricks songs with T Life, but Im not certain. |

I remember Frank Prescod's bass solo on "Sweet Stuff" by Sylvia. That East Coast sound (NYC/Philly/New Jersey) really knocked me out back in the '70s. |

I got the "Let Your Mind Be Free" LP that my daddy copped from back in the day of being a local dj back in '76. My sis played "Chance With You" 2 death! This song is quite quirky and funny but a joy to listen to. Also, I did'nt know that Yogi Horton passed away! I loved the drum work he did on Luther's albums from the 80s. |

Brother To Brother's Let Your Mind Be Free lp is one of the most sought after lp's for the last 20 yrs that I know. I should know cause I worked at plenty of shops like New & Used, Mom & Pops and stores that specializes in rare & hard to find 78's, 45's & lp's. I had the Let Your Mind Be Free lp and traded it for Gene Ammons's Angel Eyes and Chicago Breakdown. Don |
