I saw a special on VH1 about her and her new CD and I think that she looks amazing! I mean, she admitted to nips and tucks, but I wouldn't hate on her. I see her as a woman doing her thing. I had no idea about her abusive relationship with her ex-husband...I mean I didn't know he was that extreme. They played part of the first single and it is danceable. She never had a strong voice IMHO, but I think this time it will work. What do y'all think?

LaToya like her sister Janet is not a good singer but they can do good work if they have top notch production values. Some of LaToya's early 80's sides like 'If You Feel The Funk', 'Camp Kutchi Kaia' and 'Bet'cha Gonna Need My Lovin' are excellent IMO. Her musical career went to the dogs when she switched to the cheap and electronic production that became popular after the early 80's. I haven't heard any of her new material but if she gets good songwriting and somewhat organic production she'll be fine. I'm not sure if that will translate into hits since the industry is a mess right now.

I do agree that she's looking better than she has in years. She seems much happier since she got rid of that sleazy husband of hers!

Hi Rodman & Good Evening
I think what La Toy had said and has done in the past should be lefted in the past. I think she can make a career for herself...she's a good girl and wants to progress into a performer, that's cool.

If You Feel The Funk was bad... she hasn't topped that though...
And I think she was gorgeous back then (on the cover of that LP) and still wonder why she had to go through plastic surgery...

Yeah I agree...she has said that she is in another chapter in her life that is positive and doesn't like to talk about the past. I think that I will preview her new CD. She co-wrote some of the songs and I like her first single. She does hae a strong fan base and I think that that would mean more than a hit record.

I loved IF YOU FEEL THE FUNK...good dance song...wasn't that written and produced by Michael Jackson?

Wonder B...you should see her now...to me, she just enhanced some parts of her body, but not too dramatic. However, on the other hand, she really didn't need to change anything. I always thought she was so beautiful.

Rodman & Wonder B, I thought she was the cutest thing of a girl that I ever did see way back then in Gary. I remember she'd always wave with a smile, I'll always remember that. A true story by the way fellas.

I thought La Toya had a Vegas kind of energy going on..

I found her to be larger than life the times I saw her in the 80's....I don't know why but she seems like she should play Vegas now and do a great stage show....

Hey Lady Mystique. I'm not certain but I think I did read somewhere that Michael wrote 'If You Feel The Funk' for LaToya. Don't quote me on this though. I do know for a fact that Stevie Wonder and Billy Ocean also had some involvement in her very first album.

I like 'If You Feel The Funk' but my favorite tracks by LaToya are 'Camp Kutchi Kaia' and 'Bet'cha Gonna Need My Lovin'. I don't think that 'Camp Kutchi Kaia' was ever a single but 'Bet'cha Gonna Need My Lovin' from 1983 is actually the biggest hit she's ever had (#22 R&B). I love that song! It reminds me of Kashif's productions for Melba Moore from around the same time. 'Camp Kutchi Kaia' is an early 80's mid-tempo groove with excellent bump bass and (believe it or not) a good vocal performance from LaToya. It was written by her and Janet and you can actually hear Janet on background vocals. LaToya should've had a hit with this one! Is anyone else familiar with these two songs?

Vickie, I remember watching LaToya's "True Hollywood Story" on the E! Channel and it looks like she did headline a few Vegas stripclubs when she was with her ex-husband. I'm sure that that's not what you have in mind though! LOL. :-)

Hey Handsome...I've got that issue too. I remember when it first came out, the magazines were wrapped in plastic to prevent people from taking a peek, then not buying it. If I had been able to look at the photos beforehand, I never would have bought it. I was really disappointed with the quality of those pictures.

As for Latoya's current appearance, I think she has always been a very pretty woman and I wish her all the best in her new endeavors.

Hello everyone.

I have LaToyas' first 2 LPs & her 1988 LP. I'll break the 1st LP down for you a little:

On her 1980 LP, "LaToya", Michael did write a track for her. But the track that he co-wrote with LaToya was called Night Time Love. I didn't check it off at the time, which meant that I didn't care for it at all. Her two biggest tracks from the LP, "If You Feel The Funk" (written by Kamau Peterson & Dorie Pride) & "Are You Ready" were produced by Ollie Brown, of Raydio & Ollie & Jerry fame. "Are You Ready" was co-written by Billy Ocean & he released his version the next year, if memory serves me correctly.

That LP also had the ballads: "My Love Has Passed You By", "A Taste Of You" & "Lovely Is She" which she co-wrote with Janet. All of these were produced by Ollie Brown. Stevie Wonder played a harmonica solo on "My Love Has Passed You By" & she had some heavy hitters backing her. Here's a partial list of the musicians & arrangers:

Ollie Brown, Patrice Rushen, Ray Parker Jr., Paul Jackson Jr, Eddie "Bongo" Brown, Tom Tom Washington, Don Myrick, Louis Satterfield, Michael Boddicker, Gene Page, The Tower Of Power Horns & Paulinho Da Costa.

I'll be back later with some info from her 1981 LP. Meanwhile, here's a link with some info on her releases: http://www.worldhistory.com/wiki/L/LaToya-Jackson.htm

Here's some info on LaToyas' 2nd LP (1981), "My Special Love". It was again produced by Ollie Brown. The LP contained the ballads: "I Don't Want You To Go", "Summertime With You" & my favorite from the LP, "Camp Kuchi Kaiai", which she co-wrote with Janet. She re-did Billy Oceans' "Stay The Night" & that was about it for the LP.

Her brothers participated on this LP, Randy wrote "Giving Up" & Tito co-wrote "Love Song", on which the brothers (sans Michael & Jermaine) sang back up. The same brothers wrote & sang background on "Special Love", which was produced & arranged by Randy Jackson [Not the one from American Idol] ;)

After the 1st 2 LPs, I stayed away from her LPs, as I found her music becoming a bit stale & monotonous. She did release the good "Bet'cha Gonna Need My Lovin'" on Epic/Larc, which went #22 R&B in '83. That was a very good cut & was produced by Amir Bayyan. Nevertheless, I didn't buy any more of her LPs until 1988s "You're Gonna Get Rocked".

This LP had 5 different producers. Full Force & Stock/Aitken/Waterman (of Roadblock fame), produced most of the tracks here. Full Force produced: "You're Gonna Get Rocked", "Such A Wicked Love" & the ballad "Not Giving Up On Love". S/A/W produced "Like I Do" & Steve Harvey (no, not the comedian!!! The one who had the dance hit "Tonight") produced "Does It Really Matter". She also sang a duet with John Pagano named If I Could Get To You, produced by Bobby Hart & Dick Eastman.

By this time, the electronics overwhelmed her vocals, which were a little weak to begin with.

And that's all I knowed about her!!!

Rodmann...no I never heard of those songs...I am most familiar with IF YOU FEEL THE FUNK...I am with Vickie it was played so much at the rink.

Juice...that (the first album) must be a funky album...she has some heavy hitters on that one!

I remember HEART DON'T LIE and the "sugary" video! LOL I didn't know Howard Hewitt was on that one! I thought the album with that single was not that good...I thought the synthesizers drowned her voice out too much as she already has a thin voice. They should have EQ'ed it so that we can hear her voice more over the music IMO.

Jimmy & Lady M: That's the LP on which "Bet'cha Gonna Miss My Lovin'" appears on.

Lady M: I hate to have to tell you this but, that LP is nothing special. It's pretty mediocre compared to what was out at the time. It's "nice", but kinda lightweight, if you know what I mean. It's "alight" & you won't run to the turntable to put it in your regular rotation.

Destruction: I am so tempted to say something here, SOOOOOO TEMPTED!!!! I'll let it pass....Toy says it all. I mean that from a vocal standpoint, of course!!!

To ALL: I don't have her photo spread. I saw the magazine but as always in such cases, I read it for the articles. Hey, Juice is full of innocence :-)

Hi all. Now I'm not saying that LaToya is Martha Wash or anyone of that level in the vocal department but she did record a handful of excellently produced tracks early in her career before she switched to the electronic, synth and drum machine sound that's had Black music in a chokehold since the mid 80's. Weak vocalists like LaToya and Janet HAVE TO HAVE excellent production values and extremely catchy songs. Without those two things they're complete jokes.

Does anyone remember that horrible single from 1988 'You're Gonna Get Rocked' produced by Full Force? LOL. I hated that damn song! Just horrible. That whole album flopped even though her record label promoted the hell out of it. Everywhere you turned in 1988/1989 you saw LaToya in that that black leather bra with rhinestones and Full Force behind her with all black on! LOL. And from there her singing career only got worse.

I haven't heard any of the new work by "Toy" but I hope it's a lot better than the other things she's recorded in the last 15/20 years!

I always thought she had the plastic surgery to make her look more like Michael. Now she seems to be aiming for Janet's look. Go to her new website at http://www.latoyaonline.com and see if you don't do a double-take.

And here's the original LaToya from Gary Indiana:

I've just heard "Toy's" new single 'Just Wanna Dance' and I'm shocked by the production and the lyrics. For some reason I thought that she was going to go for more of a R&B sound. I had no idea that her new song was a Techno/Dance/Club single. The lyrics are also very suggestive! LOL. I wish I could find them online so I could post them here. They're wild!

I have to say that I'm happy for Miss Jackson's recent success and the Dance/Techno production of her latest single matches her voice quite well.

I like LaToya. People are always making fun of her but I think she's a very beautiful woman. It's a shame that she had plastic surgery because she was always pretty. Her voice leaves a lot to be desired but so does Janet's.

She's pretty but her nose & chin are too pointy for me.

LaToya is really looking GOOD these days, albeit the enhancements and all. I guess for the first time (the very first time, I might add) in her life, she gets to spread her wings far and wide and really living her life. She has lived a sheltered/controlled existence from day one, and she has yet to begin to bring out the true potential in her. Can't believe that she never went shopping in the mall before! I mean, she was excited and thrilled to go to a place all of us (regular people, that is) been to a million times, and she is enjoying her first-time experiecnce going there. It really goes to show that if you just get rid of some extra baggage and excess in your life that you don't need and branch out to really experience the world untethered and free, you'll be surprised to see of what life has in store for you.

p.s.: I do have her Playboy pics, and though the picture quality could've been better, the body is bangin'! Don't hate, APPRECIATE!

The Jackson Family, to me, never appreciated their 'Black Beautifulness'...I remember when Marlon was considered the 'ugly one', and now he looks the most normal! He turned out to be handsome anyway.

LaToya, like the entire Jackson family, are human beings and all that negative media hype IMO is messed up. It is like people forget that they are one of the MAJOR contributors to Pop/R&B music. It's refreshing that LaToya is doing her thing finally...I guess she really wanted to to this her way and now she is finally doing it...I give her props! And yes, it surprised me that she has never shopped in a mall before...that blew me away!

I agree with most of you here, although the first Latoya album I bought (back in the day) was HEART DON'T LIE. Not only is Howard Hewitt singing with her on the song, he also appeared in the campy video. This was during Latoya's head wrap days. She did sing the song on Solid Gold with Howard, and the next release from the album was Prince's "Private Joy." His version appeared on his CONTROVERSY Lp. Latoya had to change the lyrics a bit to fit her album. Where Prince said "Valentino" in his version of the song, Latoya said "Cleopatra. . .she's been his every since then, if anybody ask you Boy, you belong to Latoya. Come on baby, get up!" I thought that was catchy. I don't think it went very high on the charts, but it was very danceable and popular in clubs. When she did the LP with Full Force, my ears perked up again because she had a big production team behind her, and the video was kind of street-like. I bought "You're Gonna Get Rocked" and I still listen to it today. Everyone seems to turn a deaf ear to Latoya, but truth be told, if she had the right amount of support behind her, she could have had any of the hits Janet has had. I wish her every success with the new cd. I will be buying it and checking it out for myself.
