I second that, John. Generally, I believe only Luther can sing Luther. But these renditions provoke some nice memories and give us a bit of new music, with different 'takes' on each song. It's a great CD!! |

Hi John & Linda, I haven't heard the CD yet. But, through the miracle known as ebay, I found Luthers very first LP from 1976 named "Luther". For those who've never heard the LP, in actuality, Luther was a group. The group consisted of Luther, Christine Wilshire, Theresa Reed, Diane Sumler & Anthony Hinton, the last two also appeared on his 1977 LP. I haven't really gotten into it yet, but the LP's not bad. You can hear the beginnings of his style taking shape. I won two of this LP, one a little pricey, the other pretty reasonable. In your opinions, what songs really stand on on the new CD? |

Hi Juice, I remember Luther was with a group called "Change"...The group you're speaking of, was probably before 'Change'. |

I always thought it kind of odd that he doesen't speak of his group days, they were both great groups....... |

I also remember his days as a background singer with Roberta Flack. There's even video of one of those show out there somewhere. |

Yes Medusa, The LPs that I have were from 1976. I knew about his 1st two Cotillion singers & had his 1977 LP. I just never knew that he had an LP released in 1976. Now, I have two of them I also knew of his background work on David Bowies' Young Americans LP & his jingles. Most of us first heard of Luther on Chics' 1977 LP. Two years later he was credited as vocalist on Changes' Searchin' & A Lovers Holiday. Luther has always had that magnificent voice. Hi Lucy, I sure hope that he's coming along well as well. I'm with you & Medusa. |

Juice, I remember that group-Luther vividly. I remember the Cotillion single-2nd Time Around. I also saw the Christmas Lp on Cotillion with Luther, Margie Joseph, John Edwards (before his later short-lived Spinners fame) & Major Harris. I also remeber seeing a behind the music or something to that effect with Luther, Fonzi Thorton & one of his sisters singing on Sesame Street. I have my copy of this Jazz-Luther on order. The tracks I have heard are great! This is a beautiful tribute to one of my favorite singers. Handsome |
