Here's another first draft of a label listing - dates again are very rough estimates. The numbers seem to fit possible gaps in the Ran-Dee listing - maybe they issued releases alternately e.g. 101 on MArkee, 102 on Randee, 103 on Markee, 104 on Ran-Dee and so on. 101 JO BARBARA Doot and Dot and Deet and Button (???) Fried Rice 103 VON FREEMAN 1963 Cheers When You Love Soemone 105 LOU TROY 1963 Forsaken Love Kathy 107 CARLO and JO 1963 Wah Wah Yes, My Darling Daughter 109 THE FOUR HOLLIDAYS 1963 Step By Step Grandma Bird 111 ? 113 JOHNNY ANGEL 1964 Johnny Angel Ooh Ooh La La 115 THE FOUR HOLLIDAYS I'll Walk Right Out The Door I Can't Wait nb - "Soul Harmony Singles" says this was also issued with "I Won't Need You" instead of "I Can't Wait" - these copies are credited as THE FOUR HOLIDAYS (note spelling) 117 THE CRESTONES 1964 She's A Bad Motorcycle Grasshopper Dance |

Hi David, did you read thread "Rare Chicago Soul Acts". I have something in regards to 2 of it's earlier members, before the fellas heading up to Detroit. I remember Larry having these sides and being proud of them, for some reason unknown to me? The Four Holidays sides. I'll Walk Right Out The Door/I Can't Wait sounds filmiliar to me. I can't say I ever owned these sides, not sure. Von Freeman & Carlo and Jo I heard of. Not much I can really comment on. Something should turn up when I show Lester. Don in The Windy City |

Hi Don, I came in at the tail end of that thread and haven't read it as closely as I should. I'll try printing it out - it'll be easier to take in. Thsoe label lists are nowhere near complete - I'm still researching and there's tons of questions already. Were the Big Three and Sta-Set labels owned by the same people ? Are they in fact the same company - their numbering system makes me think they might be. We'll make sense of this yet but it's going to take more work. If you'd like to post your e-mail address I'll send you my working notes and you can show them to your friend. It might help his memory if everything's in one place. It will probably take me a couple of days as I've a lot going on at the moment although you'd never guess it from the amount of time I've been on the forum this week :-) Von Freeman's name rings a bell - I think he may have become a jazz musician but that's something I need to check out. Hi Davie, Everyone that wants to contact me always can't get thru. With this new system my friends buddy got set up, you might have to post your email and I'll email you back, then you'd have to email me back. Then the email line will be open to you, ok? Don |

Most of my records on that label are spelt Mar-Kie, unless I'm hallucinating (at least on the flat-colured light blue, later label). I believe that the earlier issues were spelt: Mar-Kee. And, I have an acetate, with the spelling: Marquee (this one sounds like late1961, or 1962 (so it may have been pre-#101. I won't be able to look at them till November, to add to the list. I also have some Ran-Dee#s not on the Ran-Dee thread list. |
