Here's a preliminary listing for the label.
According to Robert Pruter's "Chicago Soul"
the label was owned by Roy Love, Udie Coffman
and Phil Rifkin.

I haven't actually seen any of these releases - it
looks like that each side of a single had its own number - Ray Scott was probably 102 / 3 and so on.
There's probably a 100/101 to be traced.

Dates are VERY rough estimates.

Well, it's a start ..

102 RAY SCOTT 1962
Joy
Looking For You

104 ? 1962

106 THE ADVENTURERS 1962
I Don't Mind
It's Alright
Prod : Herb Bernstein

108 RICK FORTUNE 1963
Running Wild
Sand In My Hair

110 JOYCE KENNEDY 1963
I Still Love You
Misunderstood
Prod : Andre Williams

112 THE VOWS 1963
Girl In Red
Born With The Rhythm

114 ? 1964

116 GARY KAY 1963
Cinderella
Whenever You're Near Me

118 JOYCE KENNEDY 1964
Can't Take A Chance
How Old Is Old
Prod : Andre Williams

120 ?

122 THE APRILS 1964
Precious Love
i Want To Know

124 FERN AND THE APRILS 1964
I Want To Know
Gotta Be In Love

Hi Davie, I gave you credit on Rare Chicago Soul Acts Thread, when a fellow (Mike S) wanted to know about Venture Records. I didn't know how to address the info instead I posted your actical, I hope I did you proud.

Hi Don, no problems - that's fine with me.

Trouble is I don't know if you can access that
Venture listing in the archives. I've been meaning to do it again but it's finding the time.

The most annoying thing is I also posted the list on the official Motown bulletin board but it
disappeared with everything else when they set up a new board. I've got the Venture list on a floppy disk somewhere but it's finding the time
to go through a box of about two hundred floppies
- ain't life a bitch, LOL

David, I got to the point of sorting stuff out recently, by keeping everything neat & tiddy. As far as disc write the names on discs. Not sayin' I'm all that I wish I could go and search for Pate Production and Marverick Records Threads.

David, I'm thinking of some of the suppose to be released stuff. In the second slot on down maybe where The Vows we're probally supposed to be release, and got held back somewhat. I'm not sure I heard "Falling In Love Isn't Easy" I think was supposed to be released on Ran-dee or for another Chicago label owned by Bob Lee.

Was Cicero Blake really on Ran-Dee? I know he was on Bob Lee's Renee label, but never heard of him having anything to do with Ran-Dee.

Correction Robb K and Matt: I mistakenly got my notes confused with Saxie Russell and Cicero Blake. Sorry for the mix-up. You know why they call Saxie Saxie because he played the sax, and that's where Jr. Walker got his style from was from Saxie, cause I can hear Saxie's influence on Junior's Tri Phi & Motown recordings. I myself on my own forgot to mention this.

I'm just assuming, and it's a wild guess on my part. Maybe the unknown press records numbers for Ran-dee & Markie, I truly and honestly think we're intended for Saxie Russell. Cause I had a handful of singles back in the day by Saxie, cause I use to plat them all the time, which brought me to the conclusion about the unknown press record numbers. I really do think sew??????

Don, I've only seen one Saxie Russell Record on either Ran-Dee or Markie. That is "Come Dance With Me" Ran-Dee114. It's clear that he made more recordings than that for Ran-Dee (including playing on other people's cuts. Perhaps there was another one pressed up. If so, I'd like to get the information on it.

Robb, I was also told by Lester that Vows & Joyce Kennedy we're suppose to do some follow up's on Ran-Dee. It's unclear about Joyce's follow up's, but he did say the vows we're about to record but their follow up release or releases was pulled back because of their manager.

I have The Four Sounds' record, Mel. I remember it as being "Novelty style". I would guess it's not a Northern Beat, -but wouldn't stake my life on it, as Northern Soul has been changing to pick up most non-ballads (from what I gather). I won't be back with the record till November- so can't listen to it or give you label info.

Thanks for the info, Don.

Hi Don. I would guess that's probably a false rumour. From what I remember of the sounds of their voices, none of them sounded like Frankie Valli, none like Bob Gaudio, and none like the other two. They all (or at least three of them have very distinctive voices, and their harmonies are unmistakeable. The Four Sounds didn't sound like them. On The Wonder Who record you can clearly hear them all. I'm guessing The Four Sounds were a local Chicago group. The 2 cuts were pretty ordinary novelty-type. I have thousands of hours of my 45 cuts on tape, and I never taped those two (or even CONSIDERED taping them. So, they're pretty poor quality, to my taste. They're minor key novelty with no heavy beat or funk. Pretty lightweight stuf, I would say.

I happen to recall in a past post that I conversed with you both or either and, that Charles Farren who recorded for Bob Lee's HAWK who recorded "You Changed My Whole Life Around"/"A Girl Like You" is a/k/a L. Lumpkins of The Gospel Clefs hit "Open Our Eyes".

Did Saxie actually have a RELEASE on Nation (under his OWN name)? I never saw it. Do you know what the tites were (or the record number)?

Or did he just record for Sebons Foster, and they never released anything?

I made a blunder in my statment.

Mel, I do have Charles Ferren on Hawk #200.

Robb, Lester once had Charles 45 on Nation. I never had my very own copy is what I was stating.

He helped Charles and Saxie get deals with labels that we're mentioned in this thread.

Interesting question. I don't know Saxie Russell's real name, we all assume that was his real name. I'd have to ask my buddy he was on vacation last week, and it's gonna be awhile to keep track of him. When I asked did he know Saxie's real name and said he didn't know, I guess he'll have to think about it some.
