Does anyone know where Millie Small is and what she is doing? I believe she was living in England, but am surprised she's never done anything as far as a comeback. She is best known for her big 1963 hit "My Boy Lollipop". |

Randy, as far as I know she's always lived in England - she emigrated here from Jamaica with her parents back in the fifties. The last I heard of her was in the early seventies when she attempted a comeback on the Trojan label - she had an album on the cover of which she appeared topless astride a giant banana - very tasteful. It probably sold about three copies. As far as I know she hasn't been heard of since but I'm no expert on bluebeat / ska. There might be some info. at Richie Hardin's website - try www.richiehardin.com (I think that's the right URL) Davie |

Jimmy, she was actually about 17 when she recorded it but she certainly sounded like she was about 11. Must admit I hated it - but different strokes as they say. Randy, I guess you must be a year or two older than me as a lot of the stuff you really like is a bit early for me. I suppose it's down to the age you're at when you really get into music - I was 13 in 1966 and that's when the bug really got me. A lot of the stuff from a year or two earlier tended to go in one ear and out the other - I was more into comics then. Davie |

Well, I'm 49. I started listening to music in the late '50s and actually buying it in the early 60s. My brother's a few years older than I. |

"My Boy Lollipop" from 1964 was produced by Chris Blackwell and arranged by Ernest Ranglin. The session was recorded in London (don't know what studio) and contrary to popular belief, the harmonica solo was NOT played by Rod Stewart. |

Why has the Rod Stewart story gone around for so many years? |

There IS info. on her on some websites. Her birth year is mostly given as 1946, but others are between 1942-48! I do remember seeing her perform on TV on Ed Sullivan and always believed she was much older than she sounded. |
