I beleve that was from Louis' instructional video made back in the late 80's. God, it was great to see him in action again. Now there's a group (the Brothers Johnson touring band)I'd like to see back on stage. Last I heard he was teaching bass in California. He and George allegedly don't get along well anymore. Anybody have an update? |

I know George took his version of the Brothers Johnson on tour a couple of years back. I saw him interviewed. When asked about Louis, he said that he was busy teaching in California. |

FYI, The Bros. Johnson were here a year or so ago at a venue, both Louis & George. I did not see them, but heard about it from the dj's on the radio who helped sponsor the concert. I was glad to hear that, because I had heard a story that they were not on good terms with each other, so it seems to be resolved!!! (Message edited by Mistrivia1 on August 02, 2004) |

I believe you're right Medusa...and he played bass on Anita Baker's "Same Ole Love"...again showing tasty licks & keepin' it dead in the pocket. Also, I don't know the state of the family harmony...but Louis and George have been touring together for two years or more now. Really, I don't see how George could have toured without him at all...since Louis was always the draw. (Especially knowing that Louis was ALSO the better guitarist and played many of the licks associated with George in the studio.) |

You're absolutely right 1Wicked... When I interviewed him in 1999 he was still not in good terms with George and indeed he had a bass academy in L.A, plus a lawyer's office since he had passed his degrees to become one! Then they reunited a little over two years ago and toured and had some great reviews. Lately Louis has moved over to Minneapolis to follow his new love... I have the flyer of their appearance at BB Kings's Bar & Grill on 42nd st, and guys you really should get off your PC sometimes... why? Because they did play again at the same place last July 20 (two weeks ago! LOL) If you don't believe me go there and pick up a flyer (I picked mine up last Saturday when I was in NY!) By the way the same flyer mentions that the DELFONICS will be appearing there on Aug 7th (it doesn't say which Hart brother formation it will be though), there's a Motown Soul Revue Brunch (all U can eat on the 7th too and on Sept 4th with Carlton J Smith singing) And do not forget Sly & the Family Stone (with Jerry Martini, Gregg Errico, the beautiful Cynthia Robinson, Ivan Neville & Sly's daughter Phunne) who will be playing there on Aug 12th... If you don't believe me check www.bbkingblues.com Back to the Louis Johnson topic, he played on almost every song on the Off THe Wall album and co-wrote the furious stomper 'Get On The Floor'... Louis also had a solo album (his only one) called EVOLUTION which only came out for a very limited period of time in Europe only back in the mid-80's. Louis's prowesses can be heard on many albums of course but I think some of his best participations are on SIDE EFFECT's first LP on the song "What The Heck Let's Discotheque", on the 'Feels So Good' LP by Grover Washington Jr or on the Earl Klugh's 'Finger Painting' album (listen to him play on 'Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow', just mesmerizing...!) Wonder B If you mess with the 'fro you gotta go! (Message edited by Wonder_B on August 03, 2004) |

Well what do you know? I learn something new almost everyday on this site (thank you all). I'll have to keep an eye out, maybe they'll turn up here at the House of Blues or the Chicago Theater. Speaking of bad ass Louis Johnson tracks, how about We Supply off of Stanley Clarke's Rocks, Pebbles & Sand album? |
