Recently we spoke of the passing of Ernesto Phillips. I happened to go to Starpoints' website where I learned that Ms Diggs has had MS since they were touring following the release of their 1985 Restless LP. Does anyone have any idea as to what she's doing & if she's doing well these days?? Here's a link: http://www.starpointmusic.com/ Renee & Starpoint were one of my favorites back in the early 80s, especially their song Don't Leave Me & I Just Want To Dance With You from their 1980 Debut LP. I'm just hoping to hear some good news about Renee. (Message edited by juicefree20 on August 01, 2004) |

Yes I have often wondered what she had become... My favourite jam was "Do What You Wanna Do" from the 'Wanting You' LP!!! Funnily enough that album is not even mentioned on All Music Guide discography of the band!!!! Here's the promo pic from the Keep On It LP. Wonder B If you mess with the 'fro, you gotta go! |

I met Renee Diggs some time ago - she is not doing well. MS is a terrible decease! Renee has lost part of her eye sight and she currently is forced to walk on crutches. Ms. Diggs decease is one of the reasons why her solo debut was never released (at that time she was unable to promote her album - hence her condition). Thanks to my dear buddy Johan Titsing, Expansion in the UK was able to put it out after all these years. At this moment Renee leads a lonely life at her home in NYC. - There are not that many acts around these days that can blow the Ashantis and Co right of stage!! My thoughts are with her. A real said story! Andreas Hellingh www.thesoulofamsterdam.com |

Hey Mr. Eli! I do know that Cheryl "Coko" Gamble from SWV is Benny Diggs niece. Her Mom (a gospel singer) is Benny's sister. I can't remember Coko's mother's name..it's not Renee & I'm not sure if she's related to them. Handsome |

Hi Bobby - Hansome is correct as always - no relation whatsoever my man (thanks SDF)! As a footnote; All the members of Starpoint were ment to perform and record music again - Amazing considering Renee's health! I gotta hand it to her... she's a SOUL WARRIOR for real!!! Andreas |

I just saw that video ("Object") on VH1 Classic the other day. I hadn't thought about them in years. It definitely took me back! |

Hey Andreas, Thanks for the info! Ms Diggs was one of the most underrated female singers of that era. Her performance on the ballad, All Night Long was one hell of a performance. I thought that her performance on Don't Leave Me was excellent as well. I'm probably biased as Starpoint was one of my favorites, along with Slave, Lakeside, Dynasty & The Whispers. This is just such sad news to me & I was sure hoping to hear better news. Thanks for filling me in!! Big ups there Handsome, Bobby E & Wonder BBBBBB (Message edited by juicefree20 on August 02, 2004) |

FYI.. Before Starpoint was signed to Elektra, I believe that they were on UA for a minute, and Linda Creed was involved in some way, for a minute. renee Diggs was signed to Capitol around 1991 and the A&R dept at the time played me some of the stuff they had on her, and it was great. Of course Capitol was useless as an r&b label at the time and they never released the product. |

Thanks for the info Andreas. That's so sad about Renee. She really is a beautiful woman too. Juice I also enjoy 'I Just Wanna Dance With You' and 'All Night Long'. I'm a sucker for those early 80's funk ballads like Starpoint's 'All Night Long', Cheryl Lynn's 'Show You How', Atlantic Starr's 'Send For Me', One Way's 'Show Me', Stephanie Mills' 'Keep Away Girls', etc. Was 'I Just Wanna Dance With You' sampled by the group Next for their hit 'Too Close'? Sounds like it to me! |

Hey all, Rod: Next sampled Kurtis Blows' Christmas Rappin'on Too Close. Now that you mention it, there is a similarity. Change a few licks here or there......hmmmm...... |

What's up Juice! Man, all this time I've been thinking that Next stole that from Starpoint! I don't think that I've heard the Kurtis Blow tune but he probably borrowed that bassline from Starpoint and Starpoint borrowed it from someone else! LOL. Sampling (borrowing) is nothing new. |

What's up Rod?? You've never heard the classic Christmas Rappin'??? I see another package is in order. There is a similarity between the two songs. However, upon comparison of the two, IJWDWY has a much busier bassline, MUCH busier. It's much more syncopated. Christmas Rappin's bassline consists primarily of quarter notes, with some eighth notes sprinkled in. IJWTDWY has a foundation built primarily upon more 8ths & 16ths. A closer listen & you'll hear the difference between the two. |

Juice, for some reason I don't remember a Christmas tune by Kurtis Blow? Sounds interesting though. I totally agree about Next, Gil! I will admit that I do like 'Butta Love' though. LOL. That's about it from them. Charise, 'Wifey' was trash! LOL. |
