Unfortunately, I had to cancel my trip to NJ to attend the Soul Patrol convention. But on a positive note, I can now go to see Alicia Keys live this evening. She's appearing at an outdoor venue on a hillside overlooking Canandaigua Lake. If anybody's ever been around the Finger Lakes in central New York State before, you'll know how beautiful it is around there. I can't believe that I'm actually going to see one of the young artists of today! She gives hope to the industry. I'll let you all know how the show was just as soon as I get back.

Bobby - I couldn't make it to the Soul Patrol event at the last minute. I'll be speaking with Barbara Mason in the next day or two and I know she was there.

Alicia was very good. Her show was too short, but I believe that was the fault of the radio station - WDKX - because they booked 2 local acts to warm up. Alicia did a little over an hour. She was in great form. The thing that totally impressed me was the spotlight she gave to her 3 background singers. Individually, each was as good as her, and that's saying somethin'! They did an old skool medley while she changed outfits (La La Means I Love You, Ooh Baby Baby and Misty Blue). I believe their names are Denise, Jessica and Jeremiah. She then came out and did "You Don't Know My Name." So other than being too short, it was a very good show.

She has a man (kid?) come out dancing to a real funky groove and he introduces her at the start of her show. He comes and goes throughout the show. I was way up on the hill so I couldn't tell if he was very short adult or a young kid. For you Howard Stern fans, he reminded me of Beetlejuice from where I was sitting (I have very bad vision)! LOL

While the entire package was great, I'd like to see just Alicia and her piano someday do MTV Unplugged or something similar.

Something I noticed at the venue was the large numbers of racially diverse families. Alicia seems to have become the poster child for biracial kids and families. It was nice to see!
