I saw Jean when she first joined The Supremes. The concert was awesome. Jean's voice gave me the chills. She was classy on stage, but I thought, rather on the cool side. She's always been my favorite lead....live or recording! |

I saw Jean in concert with the Supremes too many times to count. I found her to be distant to fans. Not unfriendly, but not overly friendly either. Her voice was probably my least favorite voice of the Supremes -- don't kill me guys. I know many people love her voice. My favorite Supremes group was Mary, Scherrie, and Cindy. |

I saw The Supremes with Jean Terrell many times and although she sang her ass off, I found her to be a bit distant off-stage. It was almost as though she was not happy being a Supreme. Several times I went backstage and although Mary and Cindy were bubbly and talkative, Jean appeared to be awkward socially and would move away to herself. This may have been what Berry Gordy saw early and on and why he wanted to replace her before the new group got started. However, when she opened her mouth onstage it was magic. |

Vonnie and I met Jean at the 70's Soul Spectacular in AC and we found her to be quite pleasant. Here we are together backstage. (Message edited by phillysoulman on July 31, 2004) |

Lindi Di, it just shows that we are all different Lindi and have different opinions (it would be a boring world otherwsie LOL), from the first time I heard JEAN I was knocked off my feet and when I met her and heard her live - WOW!, JEAN TERRELL should have been a top solo vocalist, she still in fact melts me. I will sadly not been signing on another thread for Mary Wilson's CD to be released again, as I never rated it.. I had so much sympathy for Mary after her first book and then after the second I felt as if the world had to revolve only around Mary and for me! just my opinion, "The Lady Complained too Much" JEAN TERRELL made the 70's Supremes! - and then after - they where gone! John I often wonder which way is best after managing several artists, which is best the gushy artists who go overnoard with Fans and it is all an act? or the ones that are just themselves? |

Jean Terrell, in my opinion was the best singer ever in the Supremes and probably the best female vocalist ever signed to Motown. One listen to her intro to "Stoned Love" and I was forever hooked. I liked every song she recorded. She has great ability and is great live and on record. |

...and I was describing my personal experiences upon meeting The Supremes. In fact, when Diana was with them she was the most haughty and difficult to talk to, however, I got to speak to Florence and Mary many times. They were both sweet and gracious (and in Florence's case, funny). This does not mean that there anything was innately wrong with Diana, she was amazing in performance and Queen Bee. The others were simply more accessible, possibly because of their positions in the group. The first time I ever got to speak to La Ross was 5 years ago through daughter Rhonda, and she was still a bit icy. Of the later Supremes, Cindy was always my favorite to talk to. She was always bubbly, sweet, caring, and an absolute knockout! |

I have seen Jean live too and I thought she was incredible. She seemed to sing with little effort and I was struck by how easy she made it look. I actually 'talked' to Diana Ross for the first time when she was signing her book at Harrods and she was very polite in a friendly way...in contrast to when I was in her company at a fan club reception at EMI in January 1968 when my autograph book was simply shoved along the line to Mary....who did exactly the same to Cindy. I was still happy nevertheless! |

Well I stand tall with Marv and Boy--Jean to me had the greatest voice EVER at Motown. She was not unfriendly when I encountered her after a show with Mary and Cindy at Steel Pier in Atlantic City as the three of them got into a limo. She gave off a very warm smile. (I cannot talk about my recent encounter with Diana-but its all true folks-but theres always hope!) When I knocked on Cindys door at Waldorf in '68 and interrupted her nap she was so gracious, kind and open. That woman is what I consider a HUMAN being. And Mary Wilson has gone out of her way on two occasions to treat me in a special way--give me that warmth to the pretension of an aloof star anyday-and Mary still retains her charisma, as does Cindy. I love Jean Terrell's. I know many here on this forum may have thought other wise, but not true. I just think when the whole Supremes legal battle for who should get rights to the name. But I didn't agree with who should or shouldn't be a member. I think Jean was promised a solo deal and like with all artist (and can't blame nobody for wanting to make it). But I think she wasn't promised a shot of being pushed as a solo artist and grew disillusioned and distant, it's rather sad. |

Hello Everyone. Here is a brief biography of JEAN TERRELL, that I've found. http://www.geocities.com/Sunse tStrip/Studio/2179/jeanbio.htm l Don, she did eventually record as a solo act for A&M in the late '70s. I have the A&M L.P. mentioned in the biography, and it is well worth a listen. It is very similar in style to the material that L.T.D. were releasing on A&M around the same time. "How Can You Live Without Love" is a mini-masterpiece and was heavily played as a "Rare Groove" in London back in the late 80's/early '90s. Roger |

Hi Weldon, That's a very lovely picture of Jean Terrell. Sorry, sorry I never gotten a chance to post on your thread when you posted some great pictures. Your group the Larks we're and still are my favorite group from Philly, a older cousin turned me onto you cats, my friends we're loved the records too. By the way I think your cousin is cute, I watch her everynight at 10pm Chicago time back in forth between what's happening here locally. Roger, I had Jean's solo lp at one time yrs. And form what I heard it was good. I know it's been alot of yrs since I heard it last. Truthfully, I forgot how this lp sounds. I know it's good, why?, because I use to groove and vibe with it all the time along with the LTD's records. |

I had the pleasure of meeting Jean in Detroit years ago and she was a very nice (and beautiful) woman. She had just finished performing at the Pontechtrain (sp) Hotel and we rode down the elevator together LOL. |

Tho its been years I recall being disappointed with her solo lp. Her voice seems to have deteriorated since 1990. |
