It's been 12 years today exactly since the world lost one of Motown's very first stars to a two-year battle with larnyx cancer (throat cancer). I miss her. She was kind of cute.

I can't beleive its been 12 years. I had a hard time sleeping last night, tossed & turned and thought about Sugar Wells Womack, Marys youngest who must be 19 now.

My brother's 19 going on 20 in October. He's serving Iraq now. He should be home by his birthday.

I forgot. Who was Sugar Well Womack? I heard of that name before, but I forgot where.

Curtis Womack and brothers Friendly,Bobby,Harry & Cecil were as I know you remember now:-):-) The Valentinos, also worked with Sam Cooke. Cecil was also married to Mary in the mid-60's. He is now married to Linda Cooke Womack, singer/songwriter in her own right and daughter of Sam Cooke. They had a couple of albums in the '80s billed as Womack & Womack. They have a bunch of kids, well most of them should be adults or entering adulthood. Sam's got a bunch of grandchildren:-):-):-). They wrote "Love TKO"& "Baby I'm Scared Of You", both from the debut album Love Wars, as well as other songs. I believe Mary has children with Cecil as well, I could be wrong. Bobby was once married to Sam's widow,Barbara. WOW, now that's a lot of music history, did you get it all?:-):-):-):-):-)

Mary-miss her. I sent her a card when she was in the hospital-wow 12 years. Does anyone know who Sugar lived with after Mary's death? I wish the autobiography she was working on before her death got finished or someone(Sam Moore's wife maybe who helped Mary a lot)would finish it. I wonder if Mary had some money coming in that went to Sugar for her songwriting(Bye Bye BAby etc)

Mary's got a track on a new cd issued by Warner over here in the UK- produced by Cecil Womack. It's "If You Can't Give Her Love"...came out on Reprise in the mid70s, not a great song but the vocal on it is just amazing and pinpoints what great talent this lady had. She really makes the absolute most of it but in a subtle way.

Sugar lived with her older siblings after Mary died. So they would be cousins on their dads' side and siblings on their mom's side. Lotsa talent there for sure.

Yes, Sugar Wells Womack is about 18 or 19! She
lived with Mary's daughter Stacy Noel Womack
after her mother became too ill to care for her.
Stacy now lives in Las Vegas and Sugar is still
with her. I still speak with Curtis & Friendly
Womack. Haven't spoken with Stacy in awhile or
Cecil & Linda either.

Thanks Tony. Presume that is Bobby on there as well. He certainly got a great performance out of her.

There are several other recordings made from that
period that Bobby Womack produced on Mary, includ-
ing a version of "Bye Bye Baby". At one time
Curtis told me Bobby had the masters to all the
tracks he produced on Mary and was making a deal
for them with a label in England. Haven't heard
anymore about that, but it's worth checking into.
