Like A Nightmare was pressed, but I believe only a few were made. It may be like Frank Wilson on Soul (only 6 made). I'd bet it wasn't sold retail in record shops. I really doubt that "Some Quiet Place" was issued. I've never even seen it on a list or schedule for release. There were many on those lists that never were released. |

Nightmare ws given a release number on VIP (25006) backed with If you were mine but it didn't get released though promo copies might have gone out.... Brenda's track certainly wasn't lined up for release but didn't she have a version of it out on HDH's Music Merchant label later?? Til Johnny Comes was a Brenda track set for release on Tamla 54144 (prior to Just Look and You've Made Me so Very Happy) but was withheld. |

Mike S, wouldn't some DJ copies of "Like A Nightmare" have surfaced by now? I've only heard of 4 yellow copies of it (plus mine, which no one knew about, until now). |

Brenda had only one single released on Music Merchant #1001, Let Love Grow/Some Quiet Place, it was issued in 1972. |

I talked to Brenda about the tracks that she did on Invictus. She said that she had recorded some of the tracks that were issued on Freda Payne, Honey Cone and Glass House but she couldn't remember which ones although she did at the time that she heard them on the radio. She apparently recorded sufficient tracks to put out an album or INVICTUS. It came as much as a suprise to her as anyone that she launched the Music Merchant label. I have her Music Merchant 45 with "Some Quiet Place (To Ease My Mind)" and it's not a DJ copy. I tried to buy it when it was first listed in Blues and Soul in 1972 as a new release but no shop in the UK could get it. I easily managed to get a one sided promo copy for "Let Love Grow" but the regular 45 was real hard and I eventually got it years later. The version of "Like A Nightmare" on the "This Is Northern Soul CD is dubbed from the VIP 45 so that's another copy to add to the ones already mentioned. I like the story that Motown dumped a whole heap of 45's (Andantes, Frank Wilson, Earl Van Dyke's "All For You", Kim Weston's "A Little More Love") and an apartment block was built on top of them, to stop anyone getting hold of them. So all I need to know is, which apartment block and where I can buy an earth shovel....LOL |

Hi Mike S. I keep it in a tin box in the tent of a Bedouin friend of mine, who spends summer near Wadi es Sir, Jordan, and winters near Ma'an, Jordan. I go visit it every three years when I go to see family in Israel, and friends on The West Bank (Ramallah). I've been told that Ann sang lead on "If You Were Mine". That voice sounds to me very much like the lead in "Honey, Honey, Honey" by The Challengers III on Tri-Phi, which I have also been told is Ann. But I'm no expert on voices. Hey John, I hope that ALL the "pulled" records were pressed, and are under the building in D-Town! Now that they've located most of those recordings, they should release vinyl pressings of them to look like what the originals would have, as a favour to old timers like us, eh? |
