I have read that Flo ad libbed her sassy asides to Diana in their stage act--which freaked Berry out tho he ultimatley liked them and kept them in the act . However one source who I dont generally give much creedence to said they were scripted and rehearsed. Any knowledge here? It is also been stated that Hollwyood was interested in Flo for a comedic role but she was never told.(listening to the new Supremes cd Thers A Place For Usgot me thinkin about this stuff--I like the cd overall-Strangers In The Night with its cha cha beat knocks me out--anyone else listen to it?)

It's likely it was a bit of both.....scripted to add to the sparkle of their act.....then ad-libbed as Flo became more disgusted with her role in the group.

IMO, Flo could have been the next Pearl Bailey, if given the opportunity.

There were definitely scripted ad-libs and asides but towards the last couple of years Florence would occasionally step outside of the script. I went to the Cop, in I believe late 1966 or early 1967, and Florence was particularly sassy and hysterical. To my family and myself it was apparent that Diana was not happy with being so upstaged. At one point after "Lady is a Tramp," Florence ad-libbed "people I'm doing the best I can." The audience roared.

LOLOLOL--wish I could have seen it--God bless her--too bad Diana couldnt relax and enjoy it! Flo looked absolutely stunning on Whats My Line Show--very similar to Beyonce's physique--so much for another myth that she was fat(and this was near her departure)--she was the most "classically" attractive of the 3 on that show.

She also does the lead on "Aint That Good News", "Save Me A Star", "O'Holy Night" "Hey Baby" and "Heavenly Father". There are several more in the Motown vaults, with the new Hip O Select we just might get them released. A great shared lead is "It Makes No Difference Now" Mary does the first verse, then Flo and then Diana.

thanks C. -Save me a Star was one I couldnt think of. I remember reading in one book that HDH experimented with all 3 as leads in case the public grew tired of Diana's voice.

I was just watching the Ed Sullivan performaces from begining to end. The group with Flo had such energy and sounded better vocally, to me. I love Cindy and if they had to replace Flo, glad they picked Cindy. But, it just wasn't the same in re-watching those performances. Flo rocked!

You are right, but Cindy really came into her own. Just check out Sullivan when they You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You had came off with the same type of sass. somewhat like Flo but her own style. Did anyone check out the Flip Wilson show when the girls sang Love The One You With? Jean Mary Cindy Looked and sounded FANTASTIC. It was a real group and Jean look like she reall enjoyed being in the group, not like she did later own with Lynda
