July was a particularly good month to visit the city due to the amount of entertainment available. We saw Little Jimmy Scott Ali Woodson Little Richard We missed Carl Carlton Howard Hewitt Vanessa Bell Armstrong Enchantment Confunkshun Gino Washington Only in Detroit! Now in his seventy second year, Little Richard was fantastic. He is a real character and still sings really well. Song of the evening for me was the soul ballad "Directly from my heart". |

Finally acapella is alive and well in Detroit too. Thanks especially to Spyder for singing "Calling girls" and "Get myself together". Also to Frances for singing "Fight fire with fire". And to Tonya for sending us off with powerful renditions of Patti Drew numbers. Tonya is one of Detroit's great characters and we're gonna miss her. And Sis! |

David and Harry are amazing. They come here and teach me [and all of us] about our great musical history. Each time, they come here on a mission and manage to pack so much in so little time, as described above. Great guys, real Detroiters! Thanks so much. I wish there was video of the stories they have told me. Can't you just see some some aging rent-a-cop having a couple of thick accented Scots charming him with tales he forgot form decades gone by when, during his fifteen minutes of fame, he was the toast of a town blessed by his music. |
