Greetings All,

LOL! I wish I was going. Anyone ever see the "Dreamgirls" musical?

I have always wanted to go to Broadway just to see a musical. I've always wanted to see "A Raisen In The Sun" & "Dreamgirls." Now - I want to see Berry Gordy's musical when it comes out.
I think - I wouldn't mind seeing an interesting Opera also.

Maybe one day - when I meet that special man. LOL! We can jet set to NY for Berry's musical.

Anyone been?

I saw the original prodiction of Dreamgirls on Broadway with Jennifer Holliday, Loretta Devine, Deborah Burell, and SLRalph--sensational. After Jennifer sings And I Am Telling YOU--there was a short silence of stunned awe and then we were all flying out of our seats applauding. I hear there is a new production coming.

GO_GET_GONE_GIRL...when I meet that special Man, Z~O~O~M, I'd like to fly away from here where my mind can be fresh and clear, and I could take to the sky on a natural high, and you know the rest.
I didn't see Dreamgirsl either, but I have the soundtrack...I think I would love to see a more modern version of "Strangers When We Meet" as a Play...what a Love Story.

I recall when I first heard And I Tell You I'm Not Going.
I was on a trip to Boston and about to drive into a multi-storey parking block when it came on the radio.
I just had to turn up the volume, pull in to a slot and listen in wonder and awe as the lady did her stuff!
I was off to the record store to buy that day! Sadly, we just don't get music that gets us doing that any more

I saw "Dreamgirls", but it was not the original production. I saw it at the Shubert Theater in Chicago a couple of years after it premirered on Broadway. But I did see Jennifer Holliday in the original cast performance of "Your Arms Too Short To Box With God" at the 8th Street Theater here. Future soap actor Darnell Williams was in the production as well. Other plays I've seen over the years:
GOLDEN BOY
STOP THE WORLD, I WANT TO GET OFF
TIMBUKTU
THE RIVER NIGER
DON'T BOTHER ME, I CAN'T COPE
PURLIE
THE WIZ
WHAT THE WINE SELLERS BUY
THE ME NOBODY KNOWS

I saw Dream Girls in Atlanta back in 94 and Jennifer Holliday made a return engagement. It wasn't the original cast but she definately did her thing. The young lady who played Dwayne Wayne's fiance on "Different World" after he and Whitley broke up(I think her character was Kenu) played the lead character in "Dream Girls" when I saw it.

Did anyone catch "The Wiz" a few years back when CeCe Penniston was the good which, Peabo Bryson was The Wiz, Grace Jones was the bad witch, Tony Terry (man he can sang!!!)was the tin man. I can't rememeber who played Dorothy but it was a petite young lady who played on Robert Townsend's WB show. It was an interesting show to say the lease. Grace Jones was off tha hook in it.

Unfortunately, I missed the original Broadway cast in DREAMGIRLS. The edition that I saw much later starred Miki Howard as Deena, as well as a member of the group Seduction as Lorell.

I first saw Dreamgirls when it opened in LA. At intermission, to my surprise, there was Mary Wilson in the lobby, which made it even more significant. I saw the show again several times on the road tour locally here.

I'm sorry I missed the production of "Me and Mrs. Jones" in Philly. That seemed like it would be interesting. And I'm looking forward to Berry Gordy's play.

Other than music related plays, I'm not much of a theatre fan -- I'm more of a concert lover.

My bro saw Me and Mrs Jones in Philly-and he is not a big soul fanatic and he LOVED it--is there any Broadway talk on it? He also saw Hats(ladies at Church) but was a bit dispappointed--Lilias White had done it off Broadway. Since a Supremes movie is still stalled I dont know why they just dont make a movie on Dreamgirls and use that music and story line.

I saw DREAMGIRLS while still living in NYC with my mother...she took me to see it as she has a love for the theater (now, so do I!) I think I was just entering Junior High School or something. I remember the show being great, but at times it had it's controversy because of the "underlying" story line. I thought it was great, anyway, and loved the show!

Wasn't "And I Am Telling You..." the most attempted song by black women in talent shows like "Showtime At The Apollo" and "Star Search"? LOL

Shirley Murdock did a nice cover of this song on her 2nd album, "A Woman's Point of View", but Jennifer put the mark on it!
