Go to Yahoo web page, and go under movies and look for "Ray Charles". (The movie is called just "Ray") They have a trailer of the new movie already. It looks like it would be pretty good. Kind of fast huh????
After you see the trailer..what do you think of Jaime Fox as Ray? Would you go see it???

I think that Jaime can pull it off. It looks like he is trying dramatic roles as he also has another movie out soon...can't remember the name of it, but looks like a serious role. I would go see it.

I saw a trailer of Jaime, when they aired the Essence Awards earlier this year and gave Ray an award(was the first time that I knew that Ray was really ill). From what I saw, I was impressed. Jamie's impersonation of Ray's speaking voice is frightning. If you close your eyes, you'd think it was Ray. I've been waiting for this epic since I heard about it last year, it's just unfortunate that Ray did not get to see it to fruition. Maybe an Oscar winning film, we shall see, later this year, I can't wait!

Ohh...so the movie was planned and filmed last year? How sad .
I liked the trailer too...Jaime did a pretty good job! I'll probably go see it too.

After talking with some people in L.A. who already saw an advanced copy of the movie, the talk went like this:

The movie was too commercialized and they trashed Mary Ann Fisher so bad she came off looking like the biggest slut around. How sad, she's no longer with us to defend herself. I think those who are in the know, know who's behind all of this as he was behind the commercialization of Brother Ray's funeral. Tsk...Tsk...

The same person titled the movie simply Ray. ??? What's that??? Will the the general public know? That man didn't want to pay anyone
to use the correct title "Brother Ray", what a travesty.

On the other hand, it was said that Jamie Foxx's role was the crowning jewel of the movie! Jamie's impersonation of Brother Ray was SO GOOD that you swore it was Ray himself, scary. I'm looking foward to seeing Jamie's portrait of Brother Ray. I also want to see what truths were left out in order not to pay anyone and what exagerations were put in besides the Mary Ann fiasco!!

R.I.P. Brother Ray the genius music maker.

I hear ya Sis !! Since you know/knew the parties involved & a lot of what is true (vs: "Poetic license")....you'll be the official SDF "B.S. Detector" and hip us to any lies & half-truths contained in the film. (LOL).
BTW...did you actually ever see a feed or tape the funeral ??

Hi Wicked;
Sorry we didn't get a chance to hook up this time in L.A., looking for housing and in some important meetings, our free time we were just dead tired and in need of rest. We may be spending more time in L.A. the coming year. Still considering a move after looking at a town house in Labrea Park. Any halfway affordable housing in neighborhoods we like is either too far out or through the roof!, lol. Lots to do before even making a move should we go the alternative route. We'll see.

I don't know about being any offical barometer on the movie for SD, there are far more qualified people than me, chuckle.

No, no tape of the funeral, but since we didn't attend we got fisthand reports from those who were there and participating.

Hope you are well Wicked.
We kind of expected to see you at the baptismal Mabel John did with David Ritz, etc...More on that later.

I just saw it too. It's really cool. One of the actresses who portrays one of the Raelettes is also in another movie. The same actress also supplies the vocals in the songs, "Hit The Road Jack" and "Nighttime Is The Right Time".

I have to say that part of the trailer was sort of funny.

I just took at one of the other threads. Regina King plays one of the Raelettes who's name is Margie Hendrix. I think.

Seeing that Taylor Hackford made this film, I have some faith that it'll be worth something. I worked with Mr. Hackford on "La Bamba", and spent an evening with him, talking mostly about music, somthing that he truly loves and is dead serious about.
