eli has there ever been a time when you were
in the recording studio and the artist sounds
better in the studio then singing live.not
talking about adding vocal enhancements, just straight out singing.

most artist sound better in the studio, because of the speakers,As a producer I would here the records on the radio, and wish it could sound as good as it did in the studio, and its the same when they sing live, the better the sound systems
the better you can here, Fayette if you could here a recording session you would enjoy

Fayette,

Most great singers such as TeddyP., Eddie and Gerald Levert, Patti Labelle, Lou Rawls,Michael Mc Donald, Daryl Hall etc, are such consummate pros that they innately know just how to hone in on that magical performance which will captutre that one emotion that will translate into major record sales.

Studio singing and live singing are two completely different animals.
In the studio, one must concentrate on the song structure in which the song was intended to be sung by the writer.

Live and in person however, one is more free to "do their thing" so to speak.

In my opinion, I prefer to hear an artist in the studio where he or she can truly emote and capture the magic.

Studio equipment (that magic everybody speaks of) can only do so much. Nowdays, variations in pitch can be corrected, beats can be moved or whole sections of music can be manipulated at the touch of a button (or two). But no amount of engineering can correct a bad performance. Shlock still sounds like shlock no matter what you do to it. Studio work at its heart is still about capturing a great performance and that true regardless of the musical format.

The magic I speak of is the performance not the equipment.
I prefer to monitor the vocalists dry (without effects)that way I dont miss the essence of the performance.
If the singer needs efx, thats col but I want it dry, at first.

Alot of conversation on SD always speak of music. I'm kinda feel bad when there is not enough talk about the techincal side of making records. I'm very interested in this aspect, I really am interested when I'am invited to someone's studio to see what their working with. And ask questions in regards to what equiptment is used and how enginner's go about the mixboard. From going to the basic first level (Is what I hear mostly in today's music) on up a few more levels for the full blown rich sound. That makes it all exciting to me. I'm not a techhead, but once I'm around I'm into it. Does HQ mean for natural or for enhanced sound? Isn't true the more one goes up on the board the more it cost?

HALL AND JOHN OATS LIVE DVD AND LUTHER
