This is sad news. I wasn't even aware that Miss Brown had even had a stroke. Hope she recovers from this. Did Ruth ever record any Soul music during the 60's and early 70's? As far as I know she switched from R&B to Jazz standards after her long string of hits in the 50's. |

I feel a bit sad and surprised that Ruth doesnt seem to get the attention she deserves as and R and B pioneer and as a fighter for R and B artists and herself through the work she has done at the R and B foundation. Lets hear it for Ruth!!The post on Syreeta about lets give props due to people when they r alive rings so true. Miss Brown is 75. |

I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Ruth Brown in The Loop, downtown, in the 70's when she was on a Rhythm 'n Blues/Rock 'n Roll Tour. And I told her how much I enjoy her music. It was a brief meeting and conversation. She is truly a star and is definite a legend of all time. And the woman is so very down to earth, which in some cases you don't see it from alot of recording artist today. Don |

Last night I saw Miss Brown at Le Jazz Au Bar, and she was magnificent. Her voice was still strong, and her gift for gab most evident. Plus the venue is one of the best I've ever seen a show in. |

There was a big article in the NY Times today about Ruth Brown. A must read for any fan. It deals mainly with topics mentioned in the beginning of this thread by Jimmy Mack. I won't post the link here because I know the Times asks for registration, but if you mosey over to their web site, it's very easy to find. However, I must post this short blurb. Don't look Ralph...lol. "Ray called me and said, `I'm doing this movie,' " Ms. Brown said, recalling one of her last conversations with Charles, an old band mate. "He said, `Who do you want to play you?' And I said, `Halle Berry, you crazy fool!' He said, `I ain't that blind.' " PrincessD, my 6 year old grand has seen Hairspray about 10 times and loves Ruth Brown's character. She used to quote her all time. |
