Greetings All,

I just got back in the house - and in the car - Betty's "Tonight Is The Night" was playing on the radio. Parts 1 & 2 of this song are grrrrrrrrreat! I also heard it just the other day. I love it!

Again - I love this 97.1 radio station. They also host the Tom Joyner Morning Show from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 - so that is another plus on this radio dial.

Anyway - what is your favorite Betty Wright song or memory?

Below one can hear a small clip of her music. Click on # 16 - which by the way = my number - 1+6 = 7.

"I just can't keep still." LOL! That song sounds just as good as it did back in the day.

Good morning, Hey Go_Get_Gone_Girl.

I don't have alot of my Betty Wright collections anymore, and it's hard to think of my favorite tunes from memory. If you we're to ask me what is her musical flavor is, and from what I read in the title of your Thread GoGogirl, I would definately agree Betty is Blues & R&B.

Betty's voice to me is "down home blues" but her songs can lean toward R&B.
Just my humble opinion.

Yes, I would consider Betty Wright an R & B singer.

I had the pleasure of meeting Betty Wright in the 70,s at the studio TK used in Miami. She remembered well the amazing night when she appeared at Wigan Casino. She was charming and allowed us to have a photo in the studio.I still have it but am a techno twit ,otherwise I would post it to the site.At the time Where is the love was a HUGE record on the northern scene.
Steve Alaimo was around the studio at the time, and showed us around. Its good to see Betty having success with her involvement with the Joss Stone album.

Hi Tony,
I remember one other cut "Who'll be the fool" on Alston (A-4617).

SS and Tony,
I think Betty was well recieved and she actually is considered R&B/Blues. I read once that her roots Tony is blues. She said it not me. She well recieved by both Blues & R&B Fans alike. As we're Millie Jackson, Candi Staton, Dorothy Moore and a Denise La Salle; some of these singers may of been considered Blues or vice versa. Fans still adapt them without question.

Two other cuts Betty did that I liked was "No pain no gain" and "After the pain, I think was from that same lp; although are 2 different singles that we're released. I can't recall the lp title. I think it was titled 'No pain no gain' from her own label Ms. B. Records.

One thing I can say about her Alston sides is no matter if it's the A or B side it's a hit. I agree with SS's opinion. They don't make 'em like dat anymore. The flip to "Secretary" was another flip that got play like crazy is "Value Your Love". I know everyone talks about golden oldies, oldies but goodies. That's what missing in the whole perspective on these types of stations. But here where I we can it dusty's. Betty's songs and other's I mention always get play right along with 50's & 60's Soul also, you name it. You request it they play it/

Don, I recently was blessed to get XM Satellite Radio and there is a 24hr station on it#60 called Soul Street out of Washington,DC that plays one great soul song after the other.Talk is minimal but one DJ Bobby Bennett who is on in the afternoons gave out their toll free request line and I requested "The Doctor" by Mary Wells and sure enuff they played it.I'm more excited about the radio then the new car it came in.

Tony R,

"I'm more excited about the radio then the new car it came in."

That's my definition of a Soul Man.

Jimmy Mack, Betty helped Joss Stone on her album : www.popentertainment.com/joss. htm

On her first LP on Atco, Betty Wright was only 14 or 15, and she was cute, too ! I don't have no scanner, but maybe Wonder B could help ?
