I watched Eddie sing on a PBS special about R+B and by far, he was the best performer! He hit notes that made my spine shiver and you could tell by the crowd that they felt the same. I am about to ask a question that may not be well received here but I would like to know if anyone has a contact e-mail/number for him. We met many years ago but lost contact. I just want to tell him how much I enjoyed watching him perform. My e-mail is TimSkinner@Rogers.Com |

Was "Hey There Lonely Girl" the only song that he sang falsetto? I've never heard his other records. |

Hello everyone. I must say that I am a big admirer of EDDIE HOLMAN, and there is so much more to him than his smash hit "Hey There Lonely Girl", so I've done some searching to see what I can find. Heres a brief biography - http://www.delafont.com/music_ acts/eddie-holman.htm And now .. the L.P. that contains "Hey There Lonely Girl" .. which was issued on C.D. a few years back. http://www.xsao.net/Oldies/Edd ie_Holman/ And the L.P. he did for Salsoul in the late '70s. http://www.disco-funk.com/h/ed die_ho.htm I should point out to you folks in the States that the disco-funk link suggests that "Lonely Girl" was a 1974 recording .. it is because the link is to a British site and "Lonely Girl" wasn't a hit here until 1974, at the third attempt!! There is also a C.D. on Goldmine of his early material in conjunction with Weldon McDougal which is well worth getting .. http://www.goldsoul.co.uk/shop /north-soul/cd/gscde.html Roger |

Soul Sister, "This Can't Be True" was released in 1965 and "Don't Stop Now" and "Am I A Loser (From The Start" in 1966. Those were the top Parkway singles. |

Thanks for the dates dvdmike. I love almost everything Eddie does, still have my 45 of "This Can't Be True", and the CD "Eddie's My Name". But these are my top 5 list: 1. This Can't Be True Girl 2. Don't Stop Now 3. Am I A Loser From The Start 4. Never Let Me Go 5. Let Me Into Your Life Also like Tommy Edward's song "It's All In The Game". Although I liked "Hey There Lonely Girl", its gotten so commercial that I grew sick of hearing it! S.S. |

My favorite Eddie Holman track is without a doubt 'It's Over' from his 1977 "A Night To Remember" album. And this is coming from a guy that's never cared for falsettos! 'It's Over' is just a kick azz ballad with a great beat and heartfelt singing from Eddie. It puts 'Hey There Lonely Girl' and the few other tracks that I've heard by Eddie to shame IMO. If anyone is interested in hearing it just drop me a line at rodmann2981@insightbb.com. |

Hi Satipe, his email address is: EddiHolman@aol.com. It was listed in the "In The Basement" Magazine and I sent him a fan email which he responded to. This article was in the January 2003 issue so I don't know if it's still good. Good Luck! |

I am amazed that no one has mentioned 'I'm not going to give up'. This is Soul perfection, brilliantly sung, arranged and produced. It's available on the CD 'Dave Godins deep soul treasures' volume 1,on Kent records, and IMO is the greatest compilation ever put together. Keith Herschell - London |

Eddie sure is a great singer, with unbelievable range and control. I wouldn't say he sang "falsetto" on ALL his songs. I wouldn't classify his work on "Eddie's My Name" or some of his other fast tunes as "falsetto", even though he did hit a few really high notes in each. But, I would say that all his ballads were sung in falsetto. "I'm Not Gonna Give Up" and the old Serenaders' and Impressions' tune "Never Let Me Go" are my favourites. |

RobbK; Forgot to mention, again we both like "Never Let Me Go", I have it by many artists, just love that song. Here are some of them: Johnny Ace The Impressions Areatha Franklin The Van Dykes Eddie Holman and more I just can't think of now. It's like "I Won't Cry Anymore", I have it by many people too, cause I love it! Here are ones I recall: (My)Little Jimmy Scott Tony Bennett Big Maybelle Derek Martin Marvin Gaye I don't know about 'Derek' but I do know the rest did it because they admired Jimmy's early version from 1951 on Roost but he was singing it in his show long before then. Robb as always good to hear your comments. S.S. |

Soul Sister, Luther Vandross recorded a version of "Never Let Me Go" for his 1993 LP of the same title. Dinah Washington had the hit version of "I Won't Cry Anymore" in 1952. |

I have only five words to say about Eddie: 1. Eddie 2. should 3. be 4. a 5. MEGASTAR!!!! God bless Eddie & it's gratifying to have seen him absolutely tear down the walls on that PBS special. Considering his talent, the man deserves so much more exposure & success. I first fell in love with his sound as a 5 year-old when This Can't Be True came out. If not for the internet, I would've never known that he had released so much music that I never heard of. Thank God for the internet!!! |

Hello again fellow Holmaniacs!! EDDIE HOLMAN also did some very nice recordings for GSF records in the early '70s that are worth a mention. I have 2 45's by him on GSF. "My Mind Keeps Telling Me", which is a nice dreamy "philly" ballad, that even got a single release in the U.K. and "Young Girl (In My World)", which has a more "anthemic" feel to it, and is slightly below mid-tempo. Hi, soulful brothers & sisters! I likes practically all the little i got (and / or have heard) by Eddie Holman. The ballads and some mid-tempos in Salsoul's "A Night To Remember" album, especially "Inmune To love". Also, of course, their most universal known "Hey There Lonely Girl" (I think it's responsible for their not deserving reputation as a "falsetto" voice; he got a very rich register as other tenor voices, basculating betwen falsetto to, sometimes, some "bass-baritone"). I likes also a precious and dramatic ballad that a englsh friend send to me: "Young Girl In Your World". Also I got two tracks in a Northern Soul selection that I don't have heard enough for made a opinion: "Where I'm Not Wanted" and "Hurt". I think it's sad his lack of continuity after his good album in Salsoul in the 70's. Peace & Soul Food |
