Hey, thanx for the hippin' us to this site. SDF member John Lester once insulted me, and told me I didn't know what the hell I was talking about. I think when he checks out Northern Soul singles site, will he be shocked at what I hinted about Popcorn Wylle being on Motown. O well. Yes, I seen the single for The Majors on Venture Records. Well, "Down in the Ghetto" had other working titles like; "Woman In The Ghetto" and "Love In The Ghetto" while it was being recorded at the time, in 67. I wonder if the A side has on it "Sugar Pie" or I wonder is "Down In The Ghetto" is the other side as the other. That's all I have to speak on it for now. P.S. Wonder B, if you get a chance read my reply on your Rare James Brown LP thread you started. |

Yes Bobby, the only way to access these records (individually) is to go to the Ebay site, click the SEARCH button at the top of the page, then ADVANCED SEARCH, then put a tick in the COMPLETED ITEMS ONLY case, and enter the name of the groups I have mentioned in my first post... Like for example enter The Ringleaders in the SEARCH KEYWORDS and you will get to this page : http://search-completed.ebay.c om/the-ringleaders_W0QQfromZR6 QQsoitemstatusZ2QQsorecordsper pageZ50 And you will see that the 45 I was talking about ended up at the $457! LOL Then repeat with every artist (don't forget to put the tick in the completed items box) Wonder B If you mess with the 'fro, you gotta go! |

....Or you could do it the easy way. Go to search, then click on "By Seller" and choose "Include completed items". You will then get all completed items for this seller. http://pages.ebay.com/search/i tems/search_seller.html But remember; You have to be logged in to search completed listings. |

It's NOT just the sound! You have to understand the mentality of COLLECTORS!!! They may be trying to accumulate ALL the records of a certain genre. That means they are satisfied with ONLY the original issues. The RARITY of the issue is a very big factor. The sound of the music is a factor, too. The Frank Wilson record on Soul had an added component, of having not only general soul collectors, and Northern Soul collectors, but also Motown collectors wanting it badly. These collectors don't just want to accumulate "a lot of good music to hear". Like me, they want to get EVERY SOUL RECORD ON EVERY LABEL. They are archivists. They want label runs. Every number, every issue. A lot of average, below average, and even reasonably poor quality records are bid way up in price JUST because of their rarity. Having the music to hear from another mode of media (Vinyl re-issue, cassette tape, CD, MP3,- those are a secondary, completely separate issue. Luckily, I managed to amass a lot of good 45s and albums at fractions of their "retail" cost during the years they were out. There's no way as a "starving artist" that I can acquire any additional original issue 40s, 50s and 60s records. I get jealous, looking at the stuff going to people on e-bay. At this point, I'm just happy to hear the rare/unreleased and obscure music from those eras that I somehow missed. It's nice to be able to get copies of those songs on CD. It's a new technology for "Ol' Stoneage Me". I've only had a CD player for a few months, and still have no CD burner. I still don't have the capability to download sound recordings from the internet. But, I'm being dragged into the 21st Century kicking and screaming. I'd like to eventually put my record collection on CD. |

I totally understand the collecting mania Robb, but there has to be a point where it's just pure crazyness... $4000 + for a 7" single... What about the mortgage on your house LOL????? Then how many great (and even expensive) records could you have bought with all this money... I am a collector too and considered by many of my friends as totally crazy, but funnily I get back to my senses when I see such outrageous bids... Or perhaps I would not if I was a bloody millionaire... Wonder B If you mess with the 'fro, you gotta go! |

I try and do a run down of the top ten highest priced Northern soul singles on e bay every saturday at 2:30pm (BST) on www.radiomagnetic.com and if I have them on CD I usually play a couple of them. You can hear some old shows on www.radiomagnetic.com/archive/ rnb.php by clicking on a date beside Reflections. |
