Hello Irvin and Family & all SD members: As you know I live in the metro Detroit area and Irvin comes from Scotland. So when he came to town to see and experience the Detroit Music Experience I said give me a buzz when he was in. So he did and I went down to see him and take him to hunt for a few tunes. Well it was late in the day and Jeff the owner of Record Graveyard in Hamtramck, Mi about 10 minutes from downtown Detroit said he would wait for us and keep his shop open for us. Well between the both of us we were able to locate about 50 goodie worth buying in about 40 minutes. Irvin was quite happy picked up a few northern choons and I turned him on to a few he did not know!!! That were a local Detroit thing we usually hide from those "four-in-er's" from those British Isle's. Had a great time and then went back and meet his lovely wife and adorable sweet 16-year-old daughter. Who was a machine on who was who in 60's soul. Quite an amazing crew you have their Irvin wife & kid matching you and planning to keep the 45's you found when you went up to the room!! lol Well, Irvin had to go up to the room to call Martha Reeves to let her know that they were running a little late because they where wasting time with yours truly, could you imagine??? Hello Martha. well we are a little late because we are with some old white dude..lol Now I finally get to the best part!!!!! They were going to pick up Martha and all of them were off to a Karaoke club for the night!!!!! I guess Martha is still taking it to the Street's Wouldn't you have liked to be in the cab for that's night entertainment!! Martha a mike and you may get the chance to even maybe sing with her!! Well I'm glad I meet Irvin and family, it was fun hunting tunes and talking about how much we have in common even though we live a quarter of the world apart. Wish I didn't have work tommorow... other wise it would have been... mmeee mmmmeee mmee ...Dancing in the Street.. Don't I sound Good!! lol Move over Martha Honey you take my mike!! lol Once again Hello Irvin and it can only happen in MOTOWN the Soul of a Nation. |

Record Graveyard in Hamtramck ??? I pass through Hamtramck (Jos Campau), every morning on my way to work...Probably stopped at a red light while you crossed the street, (LOL) life is funny. Have you tried Music & Memories on Gratiot and 9 Mile ? They have everything, or will order it for you,if they don't have it iin the store. |

I love the Record Graveyard(Campau just a couple doors north of Caniff on the west side of the street). My only beef with Jeff is that he puts the good stuff right up on ebay and they are out of reach of the in-store shoppers. He does have some great deals on some of the 78s, though. Lots of cool stuff can be found at Bob Mays' shop on 8 Mile, too. Any other stores that the SD vinyl hounds recommend? |

Hello Soulaholic and anyone else in this thread. Hi Soulaholic I read your posting of July 07 and thought I would take a stab at asking you for assistance in tracking down any recorded material by Delbert Nelson. We saw him up here in Ontario (Wasaga Beach) doing backup (but more like top stringer) vocals. He did the lead on a number of old standards and blew us away. I would love to track down anything that he has recorded solo. Do you think your friend at the Record Graveyard or elsewhere could help out? And boy would I have loved to be a fly in that taxi! If anyone reading this thread can help us out, we thank you in advance regards Soully Canadian |
