Hello Forum...I wasn't sure if any of you had seen this but it looks like Kedar is no longer President/CEO of Motown Universal... This is from
JAWN'S JUICE column @ eurweb.com

Looks like Universal/Motown President and CEO Kedar Massenburg has quit his job. I am told by a reliable source familiar with the company that Kedar vacated his post just prior to leaving for vacation last Thursday.

Here is what I am told. Apparently Kedar was tipped off by the human resources department at his company that the call had come to prepare an exit package on him. He then questioned the higher ups about the decision, and they supposedly acted as though they were ignorant to what was going on. Kedar was outraged that the company brass was not being forthright with him and decided to bounce.

It was already speculated that Kedar didn't like the proposed plans of former Elektra Records CEO Sylvia Rhone becoming the chairman of the Universal/Motown group, replacing the retiring Mel Lewinter who is scheduled to retire in September. Coincidentally, an artist formerly under Sylvia's reign told me that they recently spoke to her, and she said she'd be starting her new job in September. The rumored setup would have Kedar and Universal Records president Monte Lipman reporting directly to Sylvia.

Now, I'm told that Universal planned to nix Kedar to make room for Sylvia's right-hand man Richard Nash, who would be following Sylvia from Elektra. Of course everyone at the Universal/Motown group is mum for now, and numerous calls to Universal/Motown reps were not returned at press time.

More details as this story develops.

I remember Kadar label Kadar Entertainment/Universal before he was hired as President/CEO at Motown. His earlier label had the now famous Erika Badu and Big Bub and other artist who's name I can't recall. I'll still give this man his due he did at least brought newer and fresh known and unknown talent to Motown's roster. J. Busby during his run as President/CEO of Motown, in my opinion was in into current trends and flash. I always had good thoughts about Andre Harrell, at least he kept at least what few if not many artist that Motown had? One thing to his credit at least to help some kinds of sales. Is he went and dug up lots of lost and forgotten masters for quite a dozen of compilations that was ready for releasement, so I'll give him the man his credit due. I don't doubt Ms. Sylvia Sloan creditbilites but can she pull it off also-?

I have no idea what Sylvia is like. But, like most people, I just wait to see what a change will bring.

owever, I do think Harry would make a good person to be in charge of Motown. He is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Classic Motown, days we'd all like to see return, days when the talent was so good, so creative, and so numerous.

I wonder if Sylvia knows anything about music, creativity, etc.

Spoke too soon. Looks like that IS her. She has an interesting background. If she is the one to take over Universal, I wish her much success.

Hey Folks:
This had been in the works since before I left New York City in late April.

When Doug Morris (Universal Music Group's chairman) was in charge of Warner Music Group in the early 1990s, it was he who oversaw the ascension of Sylvia Rhone, who came in through the ranks at Atlantic Records and eventually became the head of Elektra Records.

After Sylvia left Elektra early this year when Lyor Cohen took over it was rumored that she would become the chairman of Universal/Motown.

Kedar has done a fine job with the label in recent years and it is sad that the brass weren't straight up with him about their plans. Maybe he could reactivate his label and bring more new talent to the forefront just like he did with Erikah Badu.

Soul Sister:
Wow..how good it feels to feel your vibes once again!

Things are going pretty good here in Clayton, Wisconsin. I'm much more relaxed and at ease here. The radio work is all good and the folks here are friendly indeed.

While I do miss some things about NYC (The Daily News, Starbucks Coffee, hot dogs at Gray's Papaya, my record collection which is in storage!) - I do enjoy the change of pace.

Thanks again for asking!

Doug:
Clayton, WI is two hours away from St. Paul/Minneapolis, MN. The radio stations I work for are owned by the Koser Radio Group in Rice Lake, WI (40 minutes from home). They are WJMC-FM (Country), WKFX-FM (Classic Rock) and WAQE-FM (Adult Top 40).

Soul Sister:
Yeah, I hear you. I'll return to NYC to get my records (and grab a Starbucks!) sometime in the fall.
