Mel, I know that Sandra Lynn also had a release on LEMAY 1002 "I Can't Escape" also written by Jesse Herring Jr. who also wrote and produced her CONSTELLATION 140 release "Where Would I Be" I have in my lists a number of releases by a Sandy Lynn whom I placed in the same list thinking they might be the same artist due to the similarity of the names she had releases on LAUREL and OPERATORS not having seen the labels or heard the 45's this is pure speculation. I also have notes I wrote down that Sandy Lynn did session work with The Corvets on LAUREL. I have never heard of The Intentions on BLEULIGHT or Pat & Pam on DAYDREAMING, anymore info about them? |

Hi Mel. I'm guessing that Sandra Lyn was an East Coast artist. I don't remember her appearing in the Chicago area. She recorded for Jessie Herring Jr. -who was a N.Y.-NJ area producer. Because Constellation Records was one of the largest labels handled by Dart Distributors, I believe they had access to much East Coast material they could decide to lease and pick up. I believe that's how they got several of the East Coast productions they released in their early 100s portion of their series. If I remember correctly, The Dynettes WERE a Chicago group. I think they had some connection with Bunky Sheppard, but can't look at my record now. The Intentions on Blue Light was definately a Chicago record, produced, I believe by Charles Redmon (a local independent producer. It was a pretty good quality, typical male Chicago-sound cut for the 1965-67 period. I don't know of the Pat and Pam record, and don't remember Daydreaming Records in Chicago. But I left there in 1966, and only spent a few months there in 1967-68. Maybe that was a Chicago Record from 1969 or later? |

I know I sound like a scratched record repeating this over and over again. I don't have many of my sounds any more. Yes I kinda remember hearing a Sandra Lynn. Yes, I had had her Constellation (and a thank thanks to Robb K for bringing it up) and one 45 by her on Laurel. Hey, wasn't Laurel a detroit or a chicago label? I think detroit, cause I vividly remember Betty LaVette recorded for this detroit label that I know of. I'm not quite sure if I know any other artist that recorded with Laurel, except for Betty. I have heard of The Dynetts and The Intentions groups. Not sure if I owned any of Dynetts sides before or not, cause I once owned so many and never had a chance to play things. They we're being released so fast that lp's and 45's would pile up, you know. A lot of records we're brought but the bulk of my record library collection was given to me so that shop owners few didn't know what to make of records and didn't know what they had, to make clear of room storage for newer lp's and singles coming out. I knew and was friends with a lot of neighborhood shop owners that we're a household name back in the day. I heard a few Intention sides we're being played about 3-4 yrs back. I ad a vivid memory of what I heard of this lost and forgotten group out of Chi-Town. I'm tic'd off about a certain midnite show that airs every week on friday's on AM radio. Cause when I call this certain person, recently he'll go into his Jeckel & Hyde personality, and ball a person out or just simply hang up on his fans and listener's, and has alienated his huge following which is at an all time zero. This fool has been like this before his misfortune. Because this certain radio personality would play these records we all on this form recall, and he'd used to play. And when you call to simply make a request, is when his dogma 'tude starts, even when he wants folk to start start callin' in. That's why I switch to listen to The Best Music Of Your Life on tuesday nite's and "Cool Gent" Herb Kent on sat's & sun's. I mean this friday nite creep which I have to give him some sort of due? Is that he was the only one who use to contiune to spin the records that other's really stop playing. I feel proud of chicago classic dusty's and all but we chicagoians will never hear those lost & forgotten classics never again. Plus, I never dug his show 2 wks ago playing nothing but all Chi-Town sides that was recorded locally and/or was associated with. I'm turned off and tuned off. If I we're in dudes shoes I would at least listen to listener's and my fans. It should've been a part2 and continuing like was done a few yrs back. Guys and gals over in Europe give at least their listeners a groove of popular, unreleased and rare of way-way-way back dusty's. DJ's here need to take heed. And I hope people from here will read this. Don |

To follow up on the last thread above. I had a certain young lady who's a Chi-Town artist who's recorded for Twinight/Twilight and Sta-Set(and for other Bob Lee associated labels) was listening to what was said to me personally last wk, on a 3 way phone. She was so very shocked at what she heard. Well, what I felt was shock, horror, hurt, disappointed, and more betrayed. This discjockey said not to long ago "Where is such & such, da-da-da-da, blah-blah-blah. I wonder if he wanted to interview her, since he always always wonder what became of her and all, and said she wanted to talk with her. The same thing happen. And since it was short notice since there is no other way to contact him on his or to tell his friend. May be He'd like to hook up on next weeks show or somethin'? Last Friday, I had another young lady who's from Chicago who's recorded for Ran-Dee, Blue Rock, Fontana, RCA and etc. All I'll say and nothing more is, Well!? Th |

Mel, Pat & Pam are definitely from Chicago, they were a "kiddie act", like Chee Chee and Peppy etc. They were the daughters of well known DJ Lucky Cordell. Info. from one of my internet friends, James Porter, about whom more in a minute Don, Laurel was a New York label. You're maybe thinking of somebody else, Betty never recorded for them - the label was active around 61/62 when Betty was still in Detroit recording with Johnnie Mae Matthews. I'd agree with Robb that Sandra Lynn is probably from the East Coast rather than Chicago. As for the Dynettes according to my notes both sides of their one and only single were written by Maurice Williams (of "Stay" fame) - so it's probably nothing to do with Chicago. Robb, maybe you're thinking of Bill Sheppard's early group the Starlets , their lead singer Liz Walker sometimes called herself Dynetta Boone. Davie |
