Did anyone here see The Funk Brothers in Montreal, Canada on July 4th?

It was an AWESOME show. Sam Moore and The Four Tops on stage what an historic moment.
I would bet that was probably the largest crowd that they have played for. They looked great in their red blazers.

Jack Ashford entertained the crowd and all the members said a few words.

If any of The Funk Brothers read this, Thank You So Much. It was a very special night.

Joan Osborne's back?!? What happened in Toronto? I thought the band was great, but the 2 singers on the longest were Sass Jordan & Mark Jordan? I am assuming an out-to-lunch jazz fest staff made those calls, someone actually into funk or soul could have found far better singers, and likely for significantly less than Sass Jordan costs! Sorry to complain, especially to any lurking Funk Bros, but after reading about Freda Payne in NC and getting really psyched for this show, only to watch Sass read the lyrics to 'Uptight' without even changing the gender and Mark Jordan sing as flat as I would have (hence my not being a singer), on Marvin Gaye tunes no less... now I feel like I'd better boogie up to Wasaga Beach, Montreal sounds like it was a blast.

Erik T - I think I will ask the guys if they would hire me to find artist for them. I think most of the members on this forum can find the appropriate act to perform with the Funk Brothers. I know there are other elements which comes into play when booking a show. Including trying to accommodate the promoters, and satisfy the type of venue, and audience.

Hi Sis, I could elaborate on why the TO Downtown Jazz Fest people are out to lunch and have been for years but I won't. I have a feeling the T.O. show was shortened by all the half assed singing as well.

Hi Ray,

Yes, it was a special night. You had a huge grin on your face the whole show.

The sound/video production was great. I go to Montreal every year for the jazz festival and it is a first class operation, very well organized.

I was impressed with the Canadian singer Jacksoul, he was excellent. Joan Osborne was great as usual too.
Sam Moore still has it, I loved the version of "Shop Around", I know it's on his finally released solo album. Stax and Motown together, unbelievable.
The Four Tops didn't miss a beat, their harmonies were right on, I believe Jack Ashford said it was the first time in 35 years since The Funks and The Four Tops have played together, wow! Too bad The Temptations didn't perform.

Enjoy the tour!

I heard that this concert was taped for Pay-Per-View, was it broadcast live or is it going to be aired later?

I know I got here way to late again. I missed out on a thread that informed that Carolyn Crawford a earlier Motown recording artist is joining The Funks as a bkgrd vocalist. It would be a pleasent to hear if, she would sing some of her songs to keep the shows fresh, but that's just a great big "if". "My Smile Is Just A Frown Turned Upside Down" and "Forget About Me" and the ultra super funky "I'll Come Runnin' are 3 of my favorites by Carolyn. That's all I have to add.

Hi!
Thanks Ray for answering my question. But one question more. Who is the second drummer?
