...Or it's my imagination.... Didn't we speak of Vietnam and it's influence on Soul music? Anyway this may be old news to some here but I stumbled on this and it seems to reflect perfectly what was in that thread some time ago... : This CD has been issued in the UK on KENT Records... I will get it soon ... Here's the track listing... 1. Greetings (This Is Uncle Sam) - The Monitors 2. He'll Be Back - The Players 3. Marching Off To War - William Bell 4. While I'm Away (Baby Keep The Faith) - Eddy G Giles & The Jive Five 5. Going To Viet Nam - Big Amos 6. Lonely Soldier - Mike Williams 7. I Believe I'm Gonna Make It - Joe Tex 8. Christmas In Vietnam - Johnny & Jon 9. I'm Gonna Help Hurry My Brothers Home - Jimmy Holiday 10. Let's Face Facts - James Carr 11. Lights Out - Zerben R Hicks & The Dynamics 12. WonderB; WoW! Thanks for that. Some hip songs on there. I think my friend in JC, Stan's Square Records will carry it in his record store, he carries alot of good import stuff, esp. Kent. I will pick it up. S.S. |

Two great songs that could have worked on this collection are "See What They Done, Done" by Delia Gartrell, about a mother whose son comes back from Vietnam strung out on drugs and "I Should Be Proud" by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. Hi Kev, it's good to have you back on SD. (Message edited by Brother Love on July 06, 2004) |

David Emanuel told me that Robin Seymour used to play his Vietnam 45 a lot. Do any Detroiters remember hearing it on the radio? |

They continue to ignore the Chicago classic: Pace Setters' "My Ship Is Coming In", from 1965. "To The Boys, now, in Viet-Nam, (hup, two, three, four) America will always remember their names, and Oh how the bells will ring." |

The major problem for companies such as Kent is getting agreement from the owner(s) of the music; it's not as simple as compiling a homemade tape. But I'm sure you already know that, Robb. A lot of the music is now owned by companies such as Universal, who dictate the terms and conditions. Anyway, how's life in Europe? |

Yeah,Graham, I know only too well the problems of getting the rights to some product. It's a shame,- but I guess we'll have to live with it until what we want to hear is in the "public domain". Life's pretty good for me. I'm hidden from the telephone spammers and people knocking on my door after 11:00 nP.M. at night, trying to sell me magazine subscriptions (unlike in L.A., where a private person's life is fair game). It's nice to see one's family and friends after 6 months in "The Boonies". After settling in again at home in The Hague, I took a 2-week work/pleasure trip to Denamark and southern Sweden, visiting my editors, and old friends and work colleagues. Now I'm working hard at Our Munich studios for a few months, before returning to Den Haag. It's tough being away from most of my American 45s, but I,ve got most of my albums and CDs in Europe. I've got a lot to listen to. And here I've got broadband, so I can also listen to music on The Internet. I hope all's going well with your Detroit projects. |
