IMO, I'd say 71-89. Of course I'm biased, that's most of the music I listen to. For sheer volume and strides, you'd have to go with the '60s, the times, the acts informed and shaped that decade. In short: Can't decide |

Hey Mel-o-dee! How's things in Merry Ole' England? Fine I hope! For me the best decade was 1960-1970, but the best years of music had to be 1965-1968, those 4 years were the ultimate in soul music!! The endless list of great records put out at that time could go on & on... S.S. |

Can't decide... I love the 60's and the 70's so much... had you mentioned the 80's? 90's or even worse the 00's the choice would have been so much easier! LOL 60's for strictly soul perhaps, the 70's for the mix of many new categories even if there was excellent soul too... but also funk, jazz funk or jazz rock or whatever you want to call that music (!), some disco, the roots of GoGo, the movie soundtracks... etc etc... Wonder B If you mess with the 'fro, you gotta go! |

Good evening all! Hey Jr, don't insult me. I'm not 44 just yet, I'm 43 & 9/10ths. Don't put that walker on me yet. I have some days to go, so don't fit me for those depends just yet. There may be not much snow on the roof, but there's still fire in the furnace, OH GLORY!!! I'll e-mail you offline about the day. I'm pretty low key about that sort of thing. Thank you very much for asking |

You know, I've come to the conclusion that the best era usually seems to be the era in which we came of age. That's the era that usually holds the best memories for us...our first kiss, our first love. So, I guess that for each of us, that's the frame of reference. |

70T's for me ..but it's a production thang..it just suits these ears rather than the 'plinky-plonky' thing that was going on a few years earlier....oooeerrr; can of worms opened here BIG TIME;o)) Mind you great timeless songs/melodies were crafted in the 60T's...just imagine if M.F.S.B/Gene Page/Larkin Arnold/Paul Riser/ etc. had got hold of them a few years later;o))??? Seriously though, I think that it's age associated...what you grew up with..what you heard in the clubs/radio of the day what your peers were into etc. At the end of the day it's either good or bad whenever it came out ....S.O.U.L 4EVER!!!!!!! Gotta go with the 60s on this one, not only was the music REAL but it was ORIGINAL! Most everything after that was imitation (not necessarily bad) but the ground-breaking was done in the 60s! |

I guess it's a matter of taste. I like the '60s best. I grew up with it (along with the '50s music first). I like strongly-skilled singers, and lots of melody, and old-fashioned instruments (no synthesizers, etc). I've got literally tens of thousands of hours of music recorded on vinyl, cassette tape and CDs, and only a handful of songs from that are from the '70s, and none from after. Maybe I've only heard several hundred soul songs from the '70s, but I've only liked about 25-30 out of what I heard. That might make me an "Old Fogie"; but, to me, the '60s had energetic, powerful, original, enthusiastic, well-produced, soul music; while the newer types of '70s music were less palatable to me, and the other types seemed like weaker copies of '60s sounds. Still, there were a lot of great quality productions in the '70s. I just didn't like the style of what they were producing. |

RobbK; My almost musical twin ...I have to agree with everything you said. Well done my friend. But if I had to limit it to just 4 years of soulful music then I'd chose 1965-1968. S.S. |
