If I get the chance to speak to him on 16th I'll let you know.

I think I only know "40 days". But what a song!

Mel and Graham, this is what I've accumalated from various sales lists over the years. I'm not 100% sure if they are all the same Jimmy Scott. I've also listed them as they have been listed with variations in the artist name on the flip sides. I wouldn't take this lot as being gospel

Jimmy Scott

GIANT 708 - NOBODY BUT YOU / IT RAINED 40 DAYS & NIGHTS

Jimmy Scott / Jimmy Scott and The Band

DETROIT GOLD 3734 - REMEMBER ME / (INSTRUMENTAL)

Charles Pryor and The Power Of Love Band / Jimmy Scott with Charles Pryor and The Power Of Love Band

DETROIT GOLD 3734 - DISCO PARTY / REMEMBER ME

Jimmy Scott and The Fiery Spartan Band / The Fiery Spartan Band

DETROIT GOLD 3736 - I WANT TO FEEL YOUR WARM EMBRACE (VOCAL) / I WANT TO FEEL YOUR WARM EMBRACE (INSTRUMENTAL)

Jimmy Scott and The Fiery Spartan Band

DETROIT GOLD 3736 - I WANT TO FEEL YOUR WARM EMBRACE / (INSTRUMENTAL)

Jimmy Scott

EASTBOUND 610 - WHAT AM I GONNA DO (ABOUT YOU BABY) / PAIR AND A SPARE

20TH CENTURY / WESTBOUND 5006 - BACKBONE / ?

FEE 005 - IF I LOSE YOUR LOVE / DON'T STOP

EARWAX 776 - LOVE LANGUAGE / ?

EARWAX 778 - LOVE LANGUAGE (7:50) / BE CAREFUL

Hope this helps you out. I would really like to know how come the DETROIT GOLD 45's are listed differently - are they promo's? and what they sound like.

Boss:
Detroit Gold 3734
The A-side (vocal) is credited to Jimmy Scott and The Band while the B-side (instrumental) is credited to The Firey Spartan Band. The recording is dated April '72.

Nice track. I wouldn't mind picking up more 45's by Jimmy Scott if I only knew which J.S. was which.

Boss, the Eastbound disc is from 1973 and the Fee one is from 1979.
There isn't any date printed on the other Detroit Gold 45, but it has the same color/designed label as the one shown above, so I think it'll be from around the same time.

I'm not that good at notes, but as I was talking to Jimmy, he said, all of those cuts named above are his works. He said he also recorded on a label he believes was Move Records over in the UK, with Ricard Carrington. He said he believes he recorded on a lable which was Voices Limited, or something to that affect.

He said he gave all of his 45's to a friend who was to put them on a cd for him, but that friend moved out of the State, never to be heard from again. So, you can image how he feels about not having his own recordings.

Boss - Off the top of his head, Jimmy said "You all are sending me way back." He tried to recollect, and said regarding the "Fiery Spartan Band"

Dwight Pettifore - Keyboard
James Branch - Guitar
Gary Branch - Bass
Jimmy Johnson replaced by Lee Marcus - Drums
Detroit Horns - Garry Wiggins, Ken, Roland.

Sis Detroit: Tell Jimmy that the information is much appreciated, when he says "You all are sending me way back." How old is he exactly and what is his life story? Many of us on this forum have now been told the history of the other Jimmy Scott and learned much from it. Maybe Jimmy could fill us in on his history and did he know about the "other" Jimmy Scott or how revered some of his releases are by collectors.

BOSS

Jimmy is a character, but very unassuming.

He is aware of the interest in his music in England and thanked us from the stage, in front of hundreds of people, for helping to chart the history of this amazing city.

He also confirmed to me what Sis said and that the discography is now complete. Move records were based in Scotland BTW.

I also told him that Voices may be something to do with Rod Dearlove in England, but that was a guess.

He's still got an amazing voice and gave us much Deep Soul including material by ZZ Hill.

Without being prompted he "apologised" to me for not being able to perform his old material.

A really nice guy.

Boss - Jimmy is younger than I am. I believe he was born in the 50's. He began recording at the age of 14, which was discussed on the Forum previously. I don't know what year his first recording was released, but it was produced by Clay McMurray. So, if we knew the year of that release, we could determine his age now.

Yes, he has heard of the Legendary Jimmy Scott. But this was after he began touring, and some of the audiences informed him of this. But, James Scott is Jimmy's real name.

I just keep learning something NEW everyday. I remember these labels in this thread. At one time, it got to a point that a older gentleman who owned a Mom & Pop store along with his wife, had to order by request records from deroit cause distributors and retailers all dried up on not having detroit product in the stores. But I was Fortunate to have owned singles & lp's at one time. Yes I remember all the labels on this thread, although many I never really got a chance to play them all, because I had so many tons of sounds.

David Meikle and Sis Detroit: Many thanks for the info, I though he was called "Little" for his stature! Jimmy must have been born around 1953 what an amazing voice for a youngster!

Amazing what you learn at Soulful Detroit as well!

Cheers!
