HI 1wicked! You're welcome! I haven't see Flip in more than 30 years!!!! You have all of today and most of tomorrow to catch it. Unfortunatley we can't sit and watch every episode. But after the marathon they said that the show will have a regular time of 5 (or 5:30) every day!!! Thats's why God invented the wonderful VCR!! |

Great. I used to hear people doing those impressions of Geraldine, and never knew what it meant. That wasn't until I was 10 and heard of Flip Wilson. |

Good afternoon all!!! Yes indeed! Flip was the man back then & Geraldine & Rev Leroy were two of the most popular TV characters ever. It's so good to see this show back on TV. With so many stupid sitcoms resurrected, it's good to finally see some quality as opposed to so much banality on TV! NOTE TO JRLO: BUTCH AGAIN????? Smilin at ya, wishing you...... Peace! Juice |

Speaking of 'FLIP', who's family I know in Jersey City...This afternoon Felix Hernandez ended his "Rhythm Revue" radio show with a segment on 'Flip' doing his skit on "Ray Charles" and topped it off with "Brother Ray" singing "America The Beautiful" for the 4th. of July Independence Day Celebration!! I was hoping to catch the episode with The Supremes of Jean, Mary and Cindy. I remember seeing it originally and thought they were great and did a cute segment with Flip. I had to go out for most of the day and probably missed it. Bah Humbug! |

I missed Ray Charles today on Flip's show. But, I am watching "It's Showtime", and a little boy sang his heart out, going into the audience, lovingly took one of the ladies hands, and even kissed a lady. That was so cute. |

Hey Chet!!! I just caught the episode with the Osmonds...they weren't all that bad.....even though Donny looked and sounded like a little girl! Can't beleive it's the same guy that's now doing Pyramid. Watching all of these episodes makes me feel old, but what great memories! Reminds me of being in the 5th grade, going to school the next day and everyone saying"Did you see Flip last night?" One boy in my class loved acting and quoting Geraldine..that was a little freaky .. My daughter came in the room earlier when I was watching an episode she said "is that a man or a woman?" I said it's Flip Wilson..a man ..dressed like a woman..its a joke..part of his act". She walked out and said "I dont' get it". Sigh..young folk...I MISS YOU FLIP!! |

So far I've seen the Jackson Five, Staple Singers, Donny Hathaway, Diahann Carroll, Leslie Uggams, Roberta Flack, Melba Moore, the Supremes (they were on two episodes -- one episode was Mary, Jean, and Cindy and the other was Mary, Jean, and Lynda). Also, the Tempts are on now singing "Papa Was a Rolling Stone." (Message edited by SoniT on July 04, 2004) |

Happy 4th to all! Now, I won't give my age away, I'm sensitive 'bout that kind of thing. Well, not really....I'm a few days away from turning 44 (!!!!! WOW!!!). Flip was a staple for the entire family. Today, I could do without all of the sterile, watered down singing performances. Back then, it was just great to see our favorites in a different light, doing skits & such. What's so amazing is the humor. It's still funny all of these years later. Now, I like Eddie, Chris & the fellas & I can appreciate their brand of humor. However, Flip & his guests conveyed a boat load of humor without ONE curse word being uttered. True talent can do that! Yes, I miss Flip too!!! I miss those relatively "peaceful" days as well. Yes, we were different before these enlightened days. Maybe it's an information overload we suffer from. |

Did you all see the episode with Bill Cosby, Flip asking Camille in the audience, who her favorite comedian was? Pretty funny and Bill's mother was sitting next to her. The skits with Bill & Flip were funny too. Also episodes with Richard Pryor, too FUNNY!!! Hi Re Re, I didn't remember seeing Donny before. I'm sure that he may have been on a Soul Train episode. I just don't remember seeing him on TV. Now, this show needs a DVD release. The way that they rendered the video on TVLand looks real strange. Maybe it's compression, but it just looks a bit off to me. It was missing that vibrancy that most of the videos have. Or, am I the only one who noticed that? |

The lady was singer/actress Barbara McNair. She still acts today and is still lovely. And yes, Curtis Mayfield was lip-syncing, he missed a few words and his guitar didn't appear to be plugged in. He's still a genius none the less. To hear Curtis and more Old School artists:http://www.Live365.com/stations/bonesb (Message edited by bonesb on July 06, 2004) |

I caught quite a bit of the marathon. It was wonderful to see some Flip's skits and monologues again. He and his writers were just great. That was REAL talent writing a consistantly funny show with minimal sets and lots of dialog and storytellings from the actors. You just don't see that kind of work done anymore. To follow up SisDetroit, the TWO Jackson 5 appearences were interesting for a number of reasons. The first one in '71 featured a pre recorded backing track that was made by the group themselves. Telltale signs that they are lip syncing include Johnny Jackson losing one of his drumsticks half way through the medley. Also neither of the guitars or the organ are plugged in nor do they have amps. When the J-5 came back the following year, the ruse was more elaborate. Guitar leads, amps, the rest of Johnny's kit are all there, but this time the group was 'syncing the studio recording of Ain't Nothing like the Real Thing. The original show was an hour long and featured recording artists usually did two songs on the show. TVLand has even edited the editing by cutting down the length of some of the skits and monologues. But even though all of this, Flip's show remains one of the funniest shows ever seen. It's a testiment to the man's genius |

Ditto, ChiDrummer. The Flip Wilson Show was quality all the way. SOme of the descriptions of the show included things that were not shown on the 1/2 hour version, e.g. "Roger Miller and the Temptations sing songs." Both Roger and the Tempts sang, but they didn't sing together on the version we got. I got up in the middle of the night to see the show the second time they showed it because I felt I had somehow missed part of the Temptations' singing since I had not seen them singing with Miller. The Temptations looked good even at 3:00 a.m., but that segment was cut. Still, the marathon made you sad that TV no longer has that kind of quality. And I understand Flip did at least a third of the writing himself. |

I KNEW I WASN'T GOING CRAZY!! I was just wondering if the Flip Wilson show was originally an hour long..and it was! I remember years ago when the J-5 were guests he did that little high five and bump dance with them (as with most of his guests.) at the closing of the show. Why do they have to edit the show??? They need a distributor to creat dvds with the original hour long show! They need to do that with the old soul train too!!! |

I'll say this about TVLand. I seen the back to back marathons of The Flip Wilson show. About 4yrs ago TVLand said they we're going to air his show here where i live, and never did. Although they did air Flip's show at at 5AM and briefly stopped airing him altogether back 4 yrs ago. Since they've shown his show this weekend, and pronounced that they TVLand would be airing his show at 5PM, and never has. If they have or my eyes must have seen Leave It To Beaver in Flip's program slot. Wow, another fake out move. I don't see what's the harm in show Flip's show anyhow. When I think of his show, I see a lot of what Arsineo Hall was doing and what Cedrick The Entertainer was trying to accomplish. |

I am a little late here... I saw some of the marathon. I loved the Temptations' appearance where Flip was the preacher and the episode where Melba was Freddie Washington's girlfriend and he had Don Knott's with him in hand cuffs. That was funny! Also, the 5th Dimension episode...Billy sang for like one minute and floored me! I also liked the Supremes episode where Ruth Buzzi was on and Freddie was in the car rental place and he took the most expensive rate! And the Geraldine skits! LOL Also, I have renewed my fan-ship with Dionne Warwick (Daydreaming) and Melba's voice...DANG, what sould I say! |

As i posted earlier about my thoughts about The Flip Wilson Show. Yesterday I caught the show for the second time after TvLand airing the marathon. They we're supposed to be airing Flip on weekdays at 5 PM. The first time I caught the show in a different time slot, not as scheduled. Yestersay at 5 they aired a episode with gospel artist Clara Ward, Sandy Duncan and Tim Conway. Tim did his same ol what's my line-that's my line adlib acting he is known for with The Carrol Burnett Show. Both Sandy and Flip tried to keep a straight face, it was hilarious. After the credit we're being rolled, I stared dancing to the shows 1970-71 theme song...groovy. |
