If memory serves me correctly, he was a former teacher when he absolutely took over Amateur Night on the Apollo TV show back in '88. Now, I didn't know that his mother was Martha Bass of the Clara Ward Singers. Of course, that would make Fontella Bass his sister, which I didn't know until I researched it. In 1993, he recorded a Gospel LP with his mother & sister Fontella. In 2001, he sang a duet on Melba Moores' Xmas LP, A Very Special Gift. In 2003, a Gospel Play DVD starring David was released. The Play is named I'm Doing The Right Thing With The Wrong Man. Here's a link to it: http://www.cushcity.com/books/ 9999921006.htm How he failed to become a huge star is beyond my comprehension. This man simply has a powerhouse of a voice & obviously great genes. I just don't know what happened. Hope this helps! Smilin at ya wishing you...... Peace!! Juice |

David happened to teach at a Church school in my old neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, never met him, but the story that I keep hearing is that he didn't really care for the Music Business (at least no R&B) and that his heart was in teaching and the church..but music is a love also so I guess that's why he's only doing thing that are gospel related....but then again like I said this is just what I heard from people who went to the same church with him...never met the man myself to give my praises to him and find out why he left the scene |

Hi NY-Dell, I absolutely believe your source. Considering his background & the contaminated music industry, I can fully understand why he would have been disenchanted with it. Smilin' at ya, wishing you..... Peace!! Juice |

I do too......but let's face it not enough of a market for his stuff these days, it's the really young people buying the music these days and they ain't buying David (of course at 49 yrs old, I'm buying damn near everything flying off the shelf, especially 70's and 80's stuff, I support artist from my era...that's what keeps them going and maybe get some of these companies to released hard to get albums on CD) |

David Peaston...isn't he Fontella Bass' brother also ???? dell, isn't it funny how the sound of whatever era has it's influence on the public ??? I know and understand that times have changed and the kids (today) are purchasing more recordings, due to more than public appearances of the artist, but advertisement of clothes, colognes, haircolors, videos etc. and therefore, increasing it's popularity...but the influence of todays sound has a lot of undesirable outcomes for some of the youth of today. For the record, I've never gotten a headache, listening to 'MUSIC' at a Red light. |

What a singer! We used to get that Apollo TV show over here (London) and it seemed like he'd win the talent show every week! Like a buddha with the most beautiful voice... He had a nice debut LP on Geffen in the late '80s but apart from odd appearances on other people's records, he seems to have dropped out of (my) sight. I saw him support Gladys Knight at London's Apollo (Hammersmith) around 1991 and they were both sensational... |
