Let me start by saying that "Thirteen Blue Magic Lane" is one of the best soul albums ever recorded. It's fantastic from start to finish. However, I've got to say I prefer the version of "We're On The Right Track" by South Shore Commission on Wand. The faster tempo suits the theme of the song better, I think. Anyway, to get to the point. I found an audio file on the web of this song credited to a group called Ultra High Frequency. It's longer than my Wand 45, but otherwise identical. Has someone made a mistake, or was UHF re-named SSC (or vice-versa)? (Message edited by tony_b on June 30, 2004) |

Hey Tony B: I own both 45's and agree the UHF & SSC versions are better than BM. If you play the 45's on a dj set up at the same time you wil see there are some subtle differences. UHF, I believe was the first release then SSC did their version. Don't have the 45's in front of me but I think???i am right on that. If not some one will tell me right away!! lol |

Thanks for the reply, Soulaholic. I know every note of the SSC lead vocal and I'm convinced the UHF lead vocal is absolutely identical. Same group, I reckon. |

UHF is a different group altogether. They were part of Stan Watson's(Philly Groove) deal with Warner's, and the first group to record that song. They were from Chester Pa and formerly known as the Geminiles . I dont think that SSC was even from Philly. |

I stand corrected, Mr. Eli. But I think somebody else made a mistake, because there's no way two different lead singers could sound exactly the same. Maybe it's really UHF, not SSC, on the SSC Wand 45??? SSC could be from LA. The flipside "I'd Rather Switch Than Fight" was produced by Dick Griffey. It even mentions LA in the song! Female lead singer. Flipping back, "We're On The Right Track" was produced by Stan Watson and Norman Harris. Classic golden-age Philly sound. The UHF audio file is the same record! |

Tony the two 45's sound different. Do you own the 2 45's or do you have sound files? I was a dj for 24 years have the wheels and have played them together, not quite the same! Maybe the files you have are not labled as who they claim to be. I have down loaded these tunes off the net and the one that claim's to be UHF has not been them. As Bobby said two different groups!! |

I only have the SSC 45 and an audio file allegedly by UHF. I have concluded that I've been deceived and the audio file is actually the long version of the SSC song. Many thanks to Soulaholic and Bobby Eli for your help. I'd like to hear the UHF version some day. Who recorded the song first? UHF? Blue Magic? |

UHF They were formerly called the Geminiles and got a much deserved name change before the record came out. |

SSC is originally from Washington, DC., and consisted of members of The Exciters Band, David Scott, who had left The Exciters to front The Five Du-Tones, + a couple of newly recruited members. As far as lead singers sounding alike...the lead from SSC and Damon Harris sound almost identical. |

Hello everyone. I bought the UHF version of this back in 1974 when it was issued in the U.K. on Pye records through their affiliation with Scepter/Wand. There is a long version of it on an L.P. called "Disco Gold" .. ( Do NOT be put off by the name of this L.P. ).. Here is a review .. http://www.discostepbystep.com /disco_gold2.htm This was recently re-issued on C.D. and here is a site that has it for sale. http://www.e-cdrom.com/cdmu046 8.html I also have the SSC version of the song and I think that they both use the same backing track but the vocals are different. One day I shall have to get the Blue Magic Version. Roger |
