Hey, guys. Today is the late Florence Ballard's birthday. She would have been 61 years old today. If anyone remembers the Supremes, they'll remember Florence.

BTW, does remember any of Florence's solo work?

SUPREMES FOREVER!

I had the chance to spend some time with her in 1966. More on that later. I'm typing this at work. She was truly a sweetheart!

Dinelle, I don't like to post from work. There's too much to be done to spend much time on the internet.

In 1966, the Supremes were in Rochester, taping an Ice Capades special. Being a fan of them from the very beginning, I planted myself in the hotel lobby every day after school (3 days). When the ladies arrived after the taping the first evening, they figured I was a fan and invited me to join them for dinner. I did and then Florence and Mary would wait with me until my father picked me up after he got off work at 9:00. It was a great experience. Mary and I are friends to this day, and chuckle over some of those old times!

I understand. I can't do much of anything since it rains so much during the summer.

Wow. I can't believe you did that. If Smokey Robinson was staying at the same hotel that my stepdad worked at, I'd probably be doing the exact same things. That, and I'd just hide in the back of his van just to see Smokey Robinson.

Hi everyone,

Hey Linda, I sure would have liked to see how things would have gone for her. I wonder if she would have ever broken through in her own right. It sure would've been nice to see.

It seems likely that Flo would have also done comedy. How sad.(Tho I do believe Miss Flo is keepin an eye on Mary, and havin fun and singin solo in heaven--well maybe she and Mary Wells and Barbara Randolph are singin I Hear A Symphony!) I bet Mary and Flo and Cindy would have toured toghether had things been different.

Linda...that's a great story.

Beautiful painting, Vonnie.

I think Florence Ballard's story is one of the saddest and most tragic in music history.

Happy Birthday Flo, we miss you.
