Hello again, soulful family! I have find a news in a spanish web-site (a cultural guide) that tolds in "La Bote", Barcelona, perform the Ximo Tbar Trio: Ximo Tbar (guitar); Anthony Jackson (bass); Esteve Pi (drums). Here tolds also some biographic notes of Anthony Jackson (his extraordinary bass line in "For The Love Of Money", the fact he is considered as the best James Jammerson's disciple and also, that he refused to be a memeber of Weather Report!!). The most sad and rare is that don't says the calendar of the performances (seems as a whole month, ??). Peace |

Also these two days was the Great Party of my town, Sant Joan (the summer's solistice celebration) and my wife killed me if i go to Barcelona one day like these... Anyway, if you wanna see two picks of Anthony Jackson, here is the link: http://masimas.com/boite/ Peace |

Senor Manuel, I need a password to get on the site. BTW, Anthony was just 19 when he played that magical bass line. |

Anthony Jackson played on "The Wiz" film soundtrack. He had a song, "Poppy Girls" with a bass line that immediately reminded you of "For The Love Of Money." |

Anthony Jackson has been one of my fave musicians for years. The only copies of Bass magazine that I ever bought were the ones featuring either him or the Funks. I haven't seen him since he was touring with Roberta Flack. |

Hi again, soulful friends! Hi, Seor Bobby Eli, I'm sorry. You can try to wrote "la bote" in the searcher (Google or another) and then, make click when you see the right link in the list of results. This is the way i have find it (without password). I think is worth for see this two picks. I'm impressed for what you says, only 19 years-old and making this revolutionary bass sound! and, in addition, I have read he invented the five-chords bass. Somebody have heard the intro in Chick Corea's "Nite Sprite"? Is also by Anthony. Pure dynamite. Also i believe the bass in "Give The People What They Want" is by Anthony Jackson. Peace & Soul Food |

Manny, Are you familiar with bassist, Alphonso Johnson? He was my friend and neighbor when he was about 17 years old on, and went on to play with Flora Purim, Weather Report,Chick Corea, and even the Three Degrees when I played with them on the road. he did some sesions with us as well. He came along before Anthony Jackson, and is a true master of the bass and the Chapman Stick. Another unsung Philly bass legend is Jamaladeen Tacuma who is arguably the most avant garde bassist in our town, so much so that he regularly plays with Ornette Coleman and even the Sun Ra group. Another is Gerald Veasley who cut his teeth with Grover and has become a force to be reckoned with himself, and he is a great guy, to boot!! |

Hello again, Mr. Electronic. Yes, I'm familiarized with Alphonso "Slim" Johnson since at 16 years old I acquired "The Aura Will Prevail" LP by George Duke. In this album also appears "Ndugu" (I believe is the same Leon Ndugu Chancler who recorded at Sigma in some O'Jays tracks. I have many other jazz and fussion albums where appears Alphonso Johnson, but i'm only sure of this at this moment, because this album was from my earliers. About Tacuma and Veasley I don't have heard never (or not are sure). Another good bass player is Buzz Feiten (who plays with pianist Neil Larsen). Thanks for your lessons. I can come to sleep having learned! (Here in Spain is 3:10 a.m.!!) Peace & Soul Food! |

Didn't Alphonso have a bass workout fusion number called "Bahama Mama" on a Jazz Concert recording about 20 or so years ago"? After that I thought he was going to blow up like Stanley |

Yes, I know. He was the first person to turn me on to Airto and Flora Purim. Before that I thought that it was a Jewish holiday, like Tu~pac Sha~kur, and Rosh Lim~bah!! |

The link to see Manny's A.J recommended pics is here : http://www.masimas.com/boite/docs/04_06_ca.html By the way Anthony Jackson has slimmed down a LOT since these pics were taken... they must be a couple of years old... the first time I saw him after he lost the weight I didn't even recognize him! I love Alphonso Johnson... especially these two solo albums : Moonshadows Yesterday's Dreams Here's a more recent pic of him I found on the net... Wonder B If you mess with the 'fro, you gotta go! Hello agian, soulful brothers and sisters! Good picks, Wonder B and Mr. Weldon! Here is a pick of Alphonso Johnson from the back cover LP "The Aura Will Prevail" (George Duke). He looks as a teenager, perhaps it's from around the years Mr. Electronic tolds. (This album is from 1976). } Peace |

I have a copy of the "Yesterday's Dreams" LP issued on Epic in 1976, which featured a teenaged legend-in-the-making Patrice Rushen on keyboards. I haven't listened to it in its full glory, but will very soon. |
