Jimmy, It would appear so. I checked & the event is no longer listed. I haven't heard anything about the show either. I wonder if anyone else has??? |

As someone who attended, I can honestly say that it was a great show. Probably one of the best Aretha concerts I've attended. She was in good spirits, and more importantly, great voice. Being that it was so intimate, it was very easy to hear the nuances of her voice. And 99% of the time, Aretha did herself proud. Oddly enough, it was only on RESPECT that I thought her voice sounded a bit thin. Highlights for me were her performances of SKYLARK, AIN'T NO WAY, and I WONT' LET GO OF MY FAITH, and MAKE THEM HEAR YOU. One complaint, and its one I have after every Aretha concert I attend. For someone with as many hits as Aretha, its almost criminal how many of them she does not perform. Her Arista hits are usually ignored except for maybe JUMP TO IT, A ROSE IS STILL A ROSE, and FREEWAY, and songs from whatever her latest album is at the time. Worse, so many classic Atlantic hits are not performed. During the BB King show, the only hits Aretha sang were JUMP TO IT, RESPECT, and AIN'T NO WAY. Granted, she also did DR. FEELGOOD and YOU SEND ME. Aretha classics to be sure, but they weren't hit records. This complaint aside, I always go to see Aretha. Expect the unexpected, I say. And in the end, its usually worth it. |

Jimmy Mack: From the one article I've read, the room was sold-out. This is the set list: S'WONDERFUL SKYLARK JUMP TO IT HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE? RESPECT O MAI BAMBINO (this title is probably wrong) I WON'T LET GO OF MY FAITH AIN'T NO WAY SO DAMN HAPPY DR. FEELGOOD YOU SEND ME WONDERFUL NESSUN DORMA MAKE THEM HEAR YOU Notables in the audience included Ahmet Ertegun, Allen Klein, and Troy Taylor, all of whom Aretha introduced to the audience. Also in the audience (and whose name escapes me) was the producer of the film ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE. |
