I bought it the day it came out. I always liked Donny, but I never purchased his records other than those with Roberta Flack. But this new live collection is great. I found myself playing it over and over again. I could almost kick myself for not recognizing earlier how gifted Donny was. |

So it's different from either Atco live album? I hope it isn't just a compilation of the 2 or something like that..? |

The Donny Hathaway These Songs For You Live are in some aspects a complilation of the Atco albums Donny Hathaway Live and In Performance. But this album also includes six never before released live songs. There are moving and brillant performances of "Someday We'll All Be Free", "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", and "A Song For You". The CD Also includes a previously unissued interview with Donny Hathaway. This CD is a must for fans of this underrated brillant artist. |

I just received the new Donny Live CD and listened to it twice last night. The 6 previously unreleased cuts are all great takes. It's typical excellent Donny. Of particular mention are a very powerful 7-minute plus version of "He Ain't Heavy" and a haunting take on Stevie Wonder's "Superwoman" which is really "Where Were You When I Needed You" but titled "Superwoman." Over a smooth piano riff, Donny introduces it by saying "From the pool of black genius, we'd like to give you our rendition of Stevie Wonder's Superwoman." Then he more than delivers. These two cuts alone are well worth buying the CD. The CD is sequenced wisely with the unreleased songs mixed in with ones from "Live" and "Performance" making it a nice end-to-end-listening experience. |

I just picked this cd up on Friday. Superwoman & Yesterday (which is one of my all time favorite Beatles song), left me speechless! I sat at my cube, glued to my seat! I thought I was in church! I wonder if there are any more songs in the vault from Donny? Hmmm.... Handsome |
