Hi, Rich and all!

Very, very good mid-tempo. Philly soul in the vocal group field at the best. Great tenor and bass voices.
I discovered it in a 14 LP's PIR compilation by Streetsounds (UK) and little after I bought the CD two albums in one: "Past, Present And The Futures" / "Greetings Of Peace" on Repertoire record's "That's Philly Sound" serie.
Ain't Got Time For nothing" belongs to the first album mentioned and is one of my fave compositions by the tandem Jefferson-Simmons.

Is sad that The Fuures don't made more albums at PIR. The little i knows of their material on Buddah (the "Castles In The Sky" album) not admit comparison with their Philly sides.

(Greetings of) Peace & Soul Food!

Hey Richard,
Yessir that sure was me on the guitar riff, and thanks for the kudos!!

Joe Jefferson was the actual producer of that song, and I always loved it and thought that it deserved more props.

Bobby I didn't know it was you...
How many times have I mimicked guitar playing on this one... LOL Looking like Joe Cocker striking chords in the air... Hahahaha

Bobby this playing on that song is one of the ultimate riffs! For real!
I've been religiously listening to that album for over 25 years!

Super giant props to you!!!

Geez WB,
I t was just one of my non-chalant, absent minded thoughtless riffs, the first one that popped up in my brain that afternoon.

It must have been the chicken salad on rye and iced tea that I had for lunch that inspired me.

Thanks for your replies everybody.

It's just one of those tracks that has gone on to help define the Philly sound hasn't it.

Pure class, and an inspired guitar riff Bobby, very catchy indeed. ( wasn't sure that was you, but I kinda had a hunch )

Goes to show I guess, that some of the most memorable work from people can just happen, without trying to force it.

Iced Tea you say......... very English drink that ya know !! :-))). We'll have to try you on fish and chips and see what that does !!!!(wink)
:-))))))

Hi Richard,

Well actually, I did do some sessions in London after several fish and chips meals and I can safely say that the inspiration was all there, albeit with just a hint of a vinegary after taste and somewhat of a greasy residue on my strings, but..well worth it, I must say.

The two pints of bitter top sure didnt hurt either!!

Hi, Nosey

Both songs belongs to the "Past, Present And The Futures" (PIR, 1978).
The two in one CD I refer (this original album plus the "Greetings Of Peace") are from germany label Repertoire Records (REP 4329 - WZ, 1993. I only knows the fax of the distributor: East West Records Gmbh, Hamburg Fax (040) 51 44 09 30. I bought in Barcelona the same year was edited, 1993.

Good luck, peace & soul food

Joe Jefferson & Charles Simmons produced the session. Don't remember whether the arranger was Jack Faith or John Usry.

Past Present and the Futures was put out with their Greetings of Peace album on UK Westside about 3/4 years ago.
The deal with Phil Int finished when Westside closed but you may still get copies on the net

Castles in the Sky was not one of their best works. Seems to have been a Jimmy Bishop production - with Don Davis and recorded in Detroit at United with Motor City rhythm section and arrangers.
Philly's Akines,Bellman, Drayton and Turner (the Formations?) wrote and co-produced most of the songs including a real beauty -Love lives on a Windy Hill. Worth buying for that one alone.

Hello Everyone.

The sleeve of my copy of "Castles in the Sky" on U.S. Buddah has "You'd Better Be Certain" listed as a track on the album, but there is no such track on the actual vinyl.

I used to have "You'd Better Be Certain" on a U.S. Buddah 45, and I remember it as being a nice mid 70's Modern/N.S. track. Is it actually present on anyone else's copy of this L.P?

On ebay, I saw this one : FUTURES "PAST, PRESENT &..." US ORIG RARE SOUL LP

Roger, I have the LP "Castles in the sky", but "You'd better be certain" is not listed.

Hello again everyone.

Manny .. is "You Better Be Certain" actually on the vinyl, or is it just listed on the sleeve?

Nosey .. Plenty of FUTURES records listed for sale at musicstack.com.

http://www.musicstack.com

Put "futures" in the "Artist Search" search engine and you should find what you are looking for.

Hello again everyone.

I've solved the mystery of "You'd Better Be Certain".

When I checked my L.P. last night I noticed ( for the first time EVER ) that although the vinyl is the U.S. copy the sleeve is a U.K. one.

Presumably there is someone else out there with U.K. vinyl and the U.S. sleeve who is wondering where the mystery track came from and what it is!!
