Over on the Motown .com boards we have been discussing the fact the despite Gladys Knight and the Pips being a top flight act whilst at Motown having released over a dozen albums. There are very few known unreleased tracks.
A kind member on thre motown boards has furnished a list of ther tracks that he knows have been recorded which remain unreleased.
It is interesting to note that the last 3 Gladys albums released on the soul label were actually made up of songs recorded before they left motown,so I suppose Motown were cashing in on their new found success on their new label.
If we exclude the 30 or so tracks that were on those 3 albums here is the list
I would be grateful if anyone could enhance the list -It seems very interesting that other motown acts seem to have endless lists of vault tracks that are known to so many people I wonder why so little is known about Gladys Knights unreleased Motown output

A Bird In The Hand Is Worth Two In The Bush
Good Lovin Aint Easy To Come By
Dont Compare Me With Her
The Day You Take One You Have To Take The Other
A Man Is A Womans Weakness
Time Cant Erase
Nothing But A Fool
You Need Me
When Somebody Loves You
Every Day I Love You More Than Yesterday

There are also a few alternate takes of - Just Walk In My Shoes (longer version), Hear Are The Pieces Of My Broken Heart (extended version), Somebody Stole The Sunshine (alt take), Take Me In Your Arms And Love Me (alt take)
But really only 10 new songs and even one of them has been released on a Tower Records Sampler (A Man Is A Womans Weakness).

In Sharon Davis book Motown the History Gladys recallsjoining Motown in 1965/6 and states that apart from Holland Dozier Holland she worked with nearly all of the other producers on different songs including a lot of stuff with Ivy Jo Hunter.

There must be a lot of vintage Gladys Knight and the Pips just gathering dust on th eshelves of that Vault which needs to be prized out as soon as possible.
Any help in highlighting other tracks would be much appreciated.

Hey Melmo!

I'm sorry, all the songs I know of have been released. I would love to her all those songs you have listed, especially the top 4! I really wish a REAL COMPREHENSIVE MOTOWN ANTHOLOGY was released on GKATP. It's LONG OVERDUE!

I guess we should add Gladys to the list with Brenda Holloway & Blinky for unreleased material!

After seeing Gladys perform so brilliantly on Motown45, I think that Universal should definitely cash in on her beautiful voice and release everything they have in the vaults be her and then some..... hang on, that 's stealing someone else's well known sign off. My apologies.
David.
