Lars Bjorn and I have launched our website today: detroitmusichistory.com
We've got a few articles (the Baker's article is having 'technical difficulties'), links, and a mission statement.
What we need are people with 'special knowledge' of Detroit music. If you've done original research, e.g., interviews, documenting a band's history, or are very familiar with the current scene of a particular Detroit music, and you wish to share that knowledge with a larger audience, contact us!
You can publish your research on our website. We also offer speakers on Detroit music.
Any comments will be much appreciated.

Jim,
Nice site.. Very clean design. I like that you chose to include articles in PDF format. Let me know if you need any contributions from the rock n roll camp.

Leo, dave, douglasm,Brian T, Carl, and everybody elso who viewed our site and had a positive experience...thanks very much!
Leo, we will install a link to your site. There will be a lengthy article on Maurice King within two weeks (the metrotimes will publish an abridged version around the same time). I don't have any pics of Maurice at Motown; don't suppose anyone out there has any for trade?

Jim G, how can you leave out gospel music. This is after all the gospel capital of the world with such contributers as Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, Aretha Franklin, The Winans, The Clark Sisters, Commissioned, Fred Hammond, Esther Smith, Rev. James Moore, Rev. Charles Nicks & The St. James Choir, The Craig Brothers, Witness, Bill Moss & The Celestials, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Thomas Whitfield and so many others.

I know, I know, chalk it up to a stoopid oversight on my part. It's already on the lengthy list of website issues that should be corrected around July 15.

Jim and Lars, thanks for the very interesting site!

It sure brings back memories. If you need any info on early rock(late 50s,early 60s) in Detroit, let me know as I played at quite a few toilets err ahhh I mean bars around Detroit.Roses,West Fort tavern,Gay haven,Moreys,Wayne show bar,Vertigo West,Edwards,Village lounge,Eddies,Surf club,Ginos Falcon lounge,Embassy hotel in Windsor,Score lanes,Sullivans, the Side Door,--you get the picture. There's many more but I'd have to think about the names. In those early days of rock in the Detroit bars, you got two venues for the price of a beer--bad ass blues/rock and a ring side seat to a dance floor fight. I kept a policemans billy club looped over my drumhead nut on my rear floor tom for those few times that the fight would migrate up to the stage.(Usually the bouncers would pounce on the fighters and beat the crap out of them as they escorted them outside)
Lynn
