I have seen this triple LP on Ebay and it has to be James Brown's rarest recording... it did come out on CD as Love Power and Peace in the early 90's but as a short version...
Here it is spread over 6 LP sides...!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4020201545&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBI%3AIT&rd=1

It was supposed to come out as KING 1137 but since James moved to Polydor it was cancelled.

Hi Wonder B,

This lp was released as a triple now that I think about it because I use to have it. It was a live lp. "Why was it released as a triple?". Like P-Funk, Mr. Brown's live shows as well as record we're extented jams that actually it should've been a parts 4,5 etc. Actually it was release on Polydor B.

The reason for this being a King Test Pressing, uh, let me give you an exsample. When Berry Gordy released and printed up The Miracles "Bad Girl" on his Miracle label and it sold well local in Detroit, Gordy then in turn leased the record over to Chess for "Bad Girl" to be distributed nationally. Even though it still sold local in Detrot and it sold nationally while it was distributed by Chess. But that was common pratice in the industry then. I don't know if the industry
does those practices nowadays. I hoped this helped to answer your question, Wonder B.

Don are you sure????? I don't think this LP was ever released... check out what the description says...
I have been buying records since the 60's and I had never seen this one... That's the Paris Olympia concert...
'Love Power and Peace' was released on CD (shorter than this LP) in the early 90's...
It's the only live featuring the Collins brothers with the JB's...
By the way the guy selling it on Ebay is none other than Alan Leeds who is one of most knowledgeable persons when it comes to James Brown stuff.
Just after when James moved to Polydor they hastily released 'Revolution Of The Mind' a double live LP but without Bootsy & Catfish and arguably not as good (even though excellent on it's own) as this recording up for sale.

Wonder B take my word for it, I had the triple lp and it was released here in the states. It was only released limited supply, because any thing Mr. Brown was putting out on record, believe me, it sold like hotcake cookin' to wildfire. My radio DJ friend played the whole lp, when he celebrated the New Year of 1990 at my home. And left me in charge to deejay for him. I held the lp in my hands, and yes, it was the triple lp. I told him I had had the lp at one time. I told Edward it is a rare out of date JB lp. I also know I pulled out 3, I counted 3 lp's. He told me to keep all his lp's that he'd be back to pick them up. He told me to make a copy to dub onto cassette if I wanted. I didn't. I wished I'd had. Don't worry I'm going to give him a call thiz week so I can comfirm it, alright Wonder B...ok?

I am not questioning your sincerity Don!!! It's just that I had never heard about this LP anywhere before seeing it on that page and believe me I travel everywhere in the world always looking for that kind of record!!! LOL

PLus if you had kept it with you, you could sell it for a very nice sum.... LOL
There are 4 days left before the end of the auction and it is already at $450!

Wow, that is something Don. I do have this concert on video ( although it might not be the same exact performance). My friend Vicki Anderson does "Don't PlayThat Song"(which was a big hit for Areatha at that time) and "Yesterday" which was issued as the flip of her 45 "Message From The Soul Sisters"her last KING release.I wonder if that triple LP included her performance also. I guess the LP got lost in the shuffle between King and Polydor 'cause I sure would have purchased it.

Yes indeed Tony... here's the exact description posted on the auction page by Alan Leeds (for people who can't or don't have time to go and have a look at the link I put in the initial post...)

******
The Holy Grail for JAMES BROWN / FUNK Collectors!!!! This item consists of ultra rare, plain yellow label TEST PRESSINGS of the NEVER released "JAMES BROWN LIVE IN PARIS - LOVE, POWER, PEACE" - King LP 1137. A 3 record set, this was scheduled to be JB's final album for King Records in 1971 but was cancelled when his new contract with Polydor went through! (A single CD was compiled from these recordings and released by Polydor in 1992). Before bidding please understand that not only was this album never released, but these are test pressings - the only form on which it ever existed! The labels have Side numbers and the catalogue number written in ink. Disc 2 also has the album title and artist credit (see photos). Recorded 3/71 with sidekick BOBBY BYRD and the original J.B.'s including BOOTSY and CATFISH COLLINS, FRED WESLEY and JABO STARKS!! This is the entire show, including vocal appearances by Byrd and VICKI ANDERSON. Titles: "Brother Rap", "Ain't It Funky Now", "Georgia", "Sunny", "Signed, Sealed & Delivered, I'm Yours", "I Need Help", "Don't Play That Song", "Yesterday", "It's A New Day", "Bewildered", "There Was A Time", "Sex Machine", "Try Me", "I Got The Feelin' Medley", a blistering "Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose", "It's A Man's World", "Please, Please, Please", "Super Bad", "Get Involved" , "Soul Power", and an otherwise unissued studio version of "Who Am I". As if that's not enough, also included in this item are Xerox copies of the original King Records memos indicating "test approved by H.G. Neely, 5/20/71" AND Xeroxes of the typed credits on the letterhead of MAN'S WORLD ENTERPRISES,"A Division of James Brown Productions".

Hello To Everyone,

I'm still looking in the matter of James Brown's Love, Power, Peace. I had this lp and I remember some of the songs that Wonder B posted and I do remember Vicki Anderson having a guest vocal performance.

Bobby Byrd has a Best Of which released in 1998, it's entitle Bobby Byrd...Got Soul: The Best Of Bobby Byrd (Polydor). Wonder B you do make a good point. But in the meantime Wonder chipt at a fact concerning Love, Power, Peace orgins on where the concert was held; you said the Olympia Concerts in Paris. Well, I Looked at the small detailed wording credits from Bobby's Best Of. There are 2 tracks from LPP and The Olympia Show "Signed, Sealed & Delivered" which is not indicated as a live track, but is credited as. Also "I Need Help (I Can't Do It Alone)"(Live in Paris), both recorded live at the Olympia Theatre, Paris, France, March 8, 1971.

I remember hearing this on my lp I once owned and discovering it again thru my deejay friend. I don't wanna sound like a scratched record but a lot of my Lp's, 45's, 78's and 8-Tracks all got misplaced and/or stolen when I was relocating to another part of town, and in 3 moves, the bulk of my library collection disappeared. So I'm gonna stand on the statements I made regarding Love, Power, Peace.

That's why I stay away from certain post made here on SDF because I feel helpless that I can not prove TRUTHS and actually facts in regards to certain subjects. Like the rare and unreleased of The Parliaments 1964 of Motown's VIP label test pressing of "I Misjudged You". I may not have my collection anymore but I still have a sharp and sound memory.

This is going to be a mess once I get in touch with my buddy to give me the titles of the songlist in exact order. Cuz, I can't let this go either, even if this thread won't be around I'll follow it up anway. Not to make excuses, though my friend has a busy work scheldule.

I've had had once at one time seen a lot of
mistakes being made in regards to JB's distributed pressings. Like "Funky Drummer" and "Make It Funky" being a couple of them. I'm
not calling a individual a business cheat nor am I inplying. Mr. Brown's people may have, I do assume, that mistakes we're made for his pressing of his own label and others. Still I don't know why they got out here in the first place?

I believe the video and cd/ lp are of the same show. My video is only about 75 minutes if memory serves. There is a short appearance from Italian tv also floating around, with Bootsy & Catfish, but the Paris video is one of the best concerts ever caught on film I think... Not sure if BBC tv re-ran it like rock concerts from Paris by Sabbath and Yes and ELP I think... not to mention a Genesis video from there in 1972... I have a tape/cdr of a German broadcast of Ike & Tina Turner at the Olympia in 1971, and had no idea this was ever released officially until I got the double album in Montreal a few weeks ago, looks like a French-only release? I have a tape of what I was told was a French-only Stax release of live footage from Paris left off the other lp. The first song was Booker T covering 'Working In A Coal Mine' I think... something that made me wonder, although a soul expert friend of mine here said he'd never heard of that album. Is there a French only release of the Stax-Volt Revue in Paris?

Erik, I have that LP, "Rhythm and blues show at the Olympia", issued only in France, with Booker T.,the Mar-Keys, Arthur Conley, Eddie Floyd, Carla Thomas, Sam & Dave and Otis Redding. Another rare LP issued in France was "Rhythm & blues panorama", that you can see in the booklet of the Stax 9 cd's set, 1959-1968. At the time, Rhythm & Blues was very hip, here.

Absolutely Phil and Erik... that Stax Live in Paris album is as rare as hen's teeth and goes for a LOT of money when it shows up...
I missed it just about a month ago when a friend of mine who was heir to an old record collector who had passed away, started to sell the records he didn't want...
Since he didn't know how rare it was he was asking very little for it (stone mint copy) but he told me about it two days too late... It was already gone...!

FrankM thanks for the links...

It just goes to show some facts can be unaccurate since both list that JB Live in Paris as two LP sets when it is actually a 3 LP set as described on the auction page.

The other great and very rare JB production LP is the third Marva WHITNEY LP which was also cancelled as James switched labels...

It is believed that there are just a couple of copies still in existence, one of which would belong to the seller of that JB LP up for auction.

Actually, Marva had a 1st lp on King BEFORE the
It's My Thing lp. Then she had the Live & Lowdown
at the Apollo lp which was issued as she was
leaving the revue. So Marva Whitney did have 3
lps on King.
I do not recall the name of the 1st lp and do not
think I ever saw it. It was very rare, but most
likely included most of her recordings prior to
It's My Thing, which became an lp recycled of her
1st lp (possibly).

Randy, this has got to be the unreleased LP by Marva... because there were only two official releases which you mentioned...
I will have the catalog number of that LP as soon as I will be able to talk to my friend in Paris...

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Was it actually issued? Wonder B - please let us know what Gilles says...

BJL how did U know I was mentioning Gilles???? How do you kow him? LOL
He's a legend!!! My mentor... and he said this LP was never released... and if anyone had this record it should have been him... he doesn't...! (I got him on the phone today- he's reissuing a series of 30 funk-soul and jazz LP's for which I wrote some liner notes and the press presentation so we had some details to settle...)

I guess Goldmine lists this one as an ordinary release just because it has a catalog number... but just because it has one doesn't mean it was on the market... and the fact is it never was...

Actually "Sunny" was deleted from the IT'S MY

her second lp, and, yes, that first lp WAS
called "I SING SOUL" in '69.

Anyway... I'll post the albums on the reissue list on another thread... just check it out...

Randy, 'I Sing Soul' has been mentioned in different places including on liner notes and everything, but it never was commercially released... or SOME people would have it! Ask Harry Weinger about it!

I just checked the liner notes and track listing on my copy of the It's My Thing lp. Randy is right. The liner notes says it's her second lp and that the It's My Thing lp has Sunny on it. But the track listing confirms that Sunny is NOT on the lp.

Tracks actually on It's My Thing:

It's My Thing part1/part2
Things Got To Get Better (Get Together)
What Kind Of Man
If You Love Me
In The Middle
Unwind Yourself
You Got To Have A Job
I'll Work It Out
Get Out Of My Life
I'm Tired, I'm Tired, I'm Tired
Shades Of Brown

A final bid at $1260 which, compared to some prices I have seen on Ebay for commercially released albums, doesn't seem THAT much (LOL)!
Especially considering the place of the artist in Soul music...
