Fortunately I have friends like Chancellor of Soul and 'Hi this is'- Kev Lo, lol... to keep me happily in tune with rare and in some cases lost soul, the stuff that you have not heard in 'EONS'...

I have to list a few that have been on my cd player for a couple of days now...

Ill Find You - Nick and Val - I never heard this record but now I am playing that joint through the floor. What a groovy record, and Valerie sounds like she is 16 on this record...lol...what a gem...

Chaperone - LaBrenda Ben - I heard this record a couple of years ago on WBGO, New Jersey. This a good twist and frug song...mash potatoe too...

Absent Minded Lover - Kim Weston - good handclaps

The original version of 'Time is My Side', yes the one the Rolling Stones recorded. I Forgot the womans name who recorded this...help Chancellor, Kev...the bottom on this record the timpani rolls...'Good Night Irene!' This is a smoker...

I got a few more.Ill be back.

You got any to mention SDF?

'Restore Classic Soul and and R & B, the way it should be'.

Hi, DyvaNaye and Kev-lo!!

(I supouse I'm re-admited in the forum after my opinions about some "long" tunes!)

In the most recent days (or the last month) i don't got time for nothing!!
The little I can heard working with the Mac with the phones is my two last acquisitions on CD: Roy Ayer's "Bug Daddy" (with a very cool and mellow cover of Laura Nyro's "Emmie") and Bob Jame's "Joy Ride". Both CD's i'm not enough "familiarized" with by now, is not easy the "digestion".
This is practically all I heard and this is jazz.
But I miss to heard a soulful voice and some times I take the "Spirit Of Philadelphia" CD and plays directly the nine track, the fantastic rare soul "(It's Got To Be) Now Or Never" by Little Dooley, sometimes four or five times!

Little Dooley is a very good vocalist, as Bunny Sigler, got a very varied register. In a same song he sounds like Anthony White and also like Philippe Wine! I'm wondering who is this great vocalist. I only knows he recorded for North Bay Philly label.

Manny.

LITTLE DOOLEY recorded later ( 1975/6 ) as DOOLEY SILVERSPOON and had a mini-hit in the U.K. with a song called "Game Players" and a minor U.S. R&B hit with "Bump Me Baby" which was similar in style to GEORGE McRAE's recordings of the time.

However, personally I don't think that either are up to the standard of "Now or Never".

Hi, friend Roger!

I'm glad to read a post by you. Thanks for this good info. You are one of the great "data-base" SDFers! (Smile!).

In fact I likes all the "Spirit Of Philadelphia" compilation and many times I have heard it the whole CD. Also, the strings arrangements on Dianne Steinberg's "One More Tome" and the last track by The Whispers, are two favorites!

Hey DyvaNaye,
Yes, " Time Is On My Side" is definetly a
classic. I remember back in 1988, I saw Irma
Thomas in the village at a place called The
Village Gate. I got to chat with her a bit and
brought up that I love both versions of, Ruler
Of My Heart (later Otis Redding's version of
Pain In My Heart) and Time Is On My Side (recorded
by the Rolling Stones a month later !). She said
that she was very bitter about the Stones releasing their version before hers had a chance
to hit. Ruler Of My Heart was later changed by
Otis Redding as Pain In My Heart. The reason for
that is because there was a friendly rival between
her and Otis, so in late 1967, Irma signed on to
Chess Records and recorded his version of,
" Good To Me". The funny thing about the cover
versions of Irma's songs is that they were both
covered by the Stones and Otis in the year that
she released her songs, 1964! Scary isn't it ???

Peace,
Mike Boone
