Poor everyone who ever worked with Phil Spector. A book should be written called HOW EVERYBODY SUFFERED ... IN THE HANDS OF PHIL!! The poor Blossoms that live in Los Angeles like Fanita James and even Darlene Love. Then there's the Crystals, and the Ronettes that suffered long and hard lean years. Even though some of them had strong voices; yet gigs were far long gone!! What if Phil would have been the kind of person that shared his wealth around; and people like Lala Brooks, Darlene Love, my bestfriend Fanita James, and Dee Dee Kennibrew, and Ronnie and her family (The Ronettes) would all have enough money to do whatever they wanted and now that they are at "that" age. Instead, Phil stopped Ronnie from singing his so-called Ronette songs in public. Losing royalites in the millions because of a contract signed by the girls. It's too bad that Phil Spector had to have such an Evil Heart ... that it got the best of him. Maybe he deserves the gas chamber ... or maybe given a 2nd chance if he'd give back to the people who made him famous!! What do you think? |

From what I understand, the Ronettes and Darlene Love won millions in a settlement of a lawsuit against Phil. It has been documented in the various news/music sources. |

Winning millions is one thing, collecting is another. I believe Phil said it would be a cold day in Hades before he cut them a check. |

If this is true about Phil Spector, it is very sad!! How can people in the business,in life period, be so mean and thoughtless??? We are not promised to be here tomorrow, so why make so many enemies and cause people heartache and pain. No one can do it by themsleves and Phil certainly did not gain all his popularity by singing himself, did he forget who helped to make him famous?? I feel sorry for him!!! He is really leaving a "LEGACY". I don't know what happened in his house with that woman, but sometimes bad things have a way of happening to people who do bad things!!! He will have to answer for the things he did and didn't do, one day, as we all will. |

What goes around comes around. No bad deed goes un-punished. Phil is on trial for murder. Let's see how that turns out. |

Bobby, The trial court awarded Ronnie Spector and the other Ronettes $3 million. The NY State appellate court unanimously threw out the judgment, saying the contract they signed with Phil Spector was legal and valid. The Appellate Court remanded the case to the trial court to determine the correct amount of royalties due and payable under the contract, which set a rate at 3%, so the amount they get is going to be substantially less than $3 million. I don't know if the payment has been made. |

The Ronettes LOST the appeal and ended up with a tiny percentage of royalities ONLY from their music being played from 1980 ON. As Phil would say"The Screw"-he did it again!(and u consider the legal fees they had to pay and split 3 ways they will get little). |

Charise, MOST of the powers that be in this biz are/ were mean and thoughtless and all that glitters is NOT gold, at least not for the artists, anyway. What you hear and read may not always be the truth. Thats why they call it SHOW business. |

When I met Nedra year before last, she was skeptical that they'd ever see a dime from Phil. Sounds like she was right -- thanks guys. |

p.s. That brings up a great memory -- when I first saw Nedra she was applying her eye makeup on a hotel bus going from a Cleveland hotel to the RNR Hall of Fame ...for a girl who grew up in the '60s seeing an actual Ronette applying eye makeup, was too cool! I took notes. She did a bang-up job, even in a moving vehicle ... |

Got it, Eli!!! I have read and seen documentaries on how artists have been treated, i.e. Little Richard, Frankie Lymon & The Teen-agers etc, you are right. I am a firm believer as many have stated, that what goes around comes around. It is just amazes me how HUMAN BEINGS can be that way to each other. Music, the one thing that brings most people together, created by gifted and blessed people who would almost do it for nothing, because they love it so much, is disregarded by others who are only concerned about money and how they can get more of it, no matter how dishonest it is. That has to be the ultimate "slap in the face" to an artist/musician. Eli, this is my first encounter with you in a direct/indirect way!!! It is a pleasure to see the posts of people whose names I would see as a youngster on the backs of my father's albums!!! Never would've imagined it in my wildest dreams, that I would one day converse with one!!! Thank you for the great songs/musicianship Hope you had a blessed Father's Day!!!! |

When Phil hit the news with the murder ... did you guys see the house he lived in? How imagine Fanita James, or one of the Crystals, or even Darlene Love not having a dime in their pocket because of Phil Spector. It wasn't like Phil had a huge house of artists to feed like Berry Gordy. Phil had the Crystals, Ronettes, Darlene Love, ect., and I think he could have more than done his share in taking care of these people!! |

I think what is so sad is that nobody will dispute that Phil Spector made some terrific records and produced sounds that we still play today. Why couldn't he be a nice guy as well? I guess it's another one of those...you can't have it all ways. Oh well. Sue - loved your story about Nedra and applying eye make up. I can even imagine such a scenario - you know, a mouth opened wide sort of look. Only a dedicated fan could say that!! LOL When Diana Ross used to wear her hair so it covered one eye, did you copy that look too? |

Dee Dee Kennibrew does quite well, she is the full time working original Crystal. From what I have always heard from Darlene Love, I don't see where she should have that big of a gripe with Phil...the Blossoms were paid session fees and a big bonus for the day when "He's A Rebel" hit.Darlene also at one time said that Phil Spector paid her rent for a year when she was having financial difficulties. The Crystals made their money from live gigs as the only "royalties" they ever got, per Dee Dee, is $5,000. after "Uptown" hit and the LP came out. When Lala was flown out to Ca. for the later recordings Phil gave her gifts and session fees. |

DD Kenniebrew has a beautiful home in Atlanta. She also buys & renovates older homes to sell. Ronnie & Nedra are doing quite well also. No one has received any money from their lawsuits. |

It's the Ronettes who really have suffered financially from Phil's anger -- and it's all related to his marriage to Ronnie. John, at one point I did cut off my hair in a bob, and it did cover one eye ...I wasn't consciously imitating Diana, but as a kid I watched Ed Sullivan religiously and noted every detail of every gown ... |

I agree Sue, Ronnie can't even sing her songs on TV.Nedra has always said that Ronnie becoming romantically involved with Phil sealed their fate as a group. |

The one Phil Spector disc that I have kept since the middle of the 1960s is the Christmas album because my now deceased parents gave it to me as a Christmas present when I was 15 years of age. This album is to me the epitomy of The Wall of Sound. I am reluctant to believe that Phil did not pay the acts on the disc their due rewards; if he didn't then he should be ashamed and the acts should have taken more care when they put their signatures to contracts. We can all be brilliant with hindsight, you just have to get on with how things are today. At least the acts have their reputations as being stars and they must trade on their status and live up to their billing as being the voices of The Wall of Sound. |

I've read Ronnies book & I've heard a lot of things regarding Phil. If the printed word is to be believed, Phil was a piece of work. However, my stay here has taught me that there are indeed two sides to every story. Actually, there's three sides to every story: my side, your side & the truth. The truth usually sits somewhere in between the two extremes. With that said, the man produced some great songs. My three favorites being Be My Baby, You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling & Black Pearl. |

Hey Phil, I actually got the Christmas lp when it was issued in '63! I got it on my birthday, Sat., Nov. 16th! So, it WAS issued prior to Kennedy's shooting. What a MASTERPIECE it was and is! I'll never forget that first listening in front of my parents' stereo! Just amazing! |

The first time (over 10 years ago) that i heard David Letterman introduce Darlene Love on his show with the words "the greatest Xmas song of all time", I felt like he was stealing my lines...lol. That song by itself, lifts that album into the stratosphere. |

I do love the 4 LP set....most of it anyway. Those were just some sweet innocent lyrics & boy, listening to that music sure makes you want to go back to those relatively safe & innocent days. |
