Friday, June 18, 2004. Let me tell you SoulfulDetroit, Spyder Turner's performance is superb. I enjoyed every song he sung. He has so much energy. His voice is so strong and clear. I was rocking as he rocked the house. I couldn't help but scream a couple of times. I jumped up a few times as well. In addition to performing several popular songs, he did his hit recording "Stand By Me" adding other artist to the song which had not been included on the previous recording, including "Donald Duck". He sang at least three originals which were so beautiful. Each one was unbelievable. He says he is finishing up an album recording which will be "Spyder Turner Live", and these songs will be included. He had my niece near tears as he sang "This is Your Life." I will be the first to get the album as soon as it is released. As I was listening to him sing those originals, I was thinking; what a wonderful voice, how did he preserve this strong voice, and the range. He can hit any note, high or low. Never lost the melody, or the groove. My neice said "You can tell he loves to sing, he puts all of his soul into it." That was a correct statement. We loved the whole show. I remember when I saw him at Greektown, he was fantastic. He was powerful at the Live with Levi Stubbs. On the way to the Motorcity, I'm thinking, "Ok Spyder, let's see if you can beat those two performances." (LOL) Well, guess what, the performance tonight was so good, I have conceded. SPYDER TURNER IS BACK NOW BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE. SD, and UK, you are in for a real treat when you see Spyder Turner perform tomorrow night. He has something for everyone. I may just join you. I don't know whether I want to leave him alone with you guys. You may want to claim him. But, Detroit never give away it's artist. They may go away, but they always know where home is. Great show Spyder. It was great meeting you "Gee." I may see you again tomorrow because I know the people from the UK, will be dancing in the Motorcity, grooving with Spyder, and having a grand time. The first show starts on time at 7:30. Don't be late. (Message edited by sis on June 19, 2004) |

Oh, I forgot, he sang "The Last Dragon" which was outstanding. Believe me, wear your dancing shoes. His band was out of sight, as well as his background singers which included his look-a-like brother, and his two daughters. |

Sis - 'Hold on, were comin'! Nice track Mel. Did not know it, but now I do. What about those drum shuffles? Sounds like either Mr Jones or Allen with the sticks. What about 'For your precious love' - those lovely female backing singers? http://www.spyderturner.com/au dio.html |

Gee - I love the video. Spyder has so much energy, and he keeps a smile on his face. He really enjoys what he is doing. I enjoy it along with him. I'm up watching the tape again, at 2am, and I smiled through the whole show. It is great. I don't know which song I like the best. If I had to choose, I would probably say "Stand By Me" and "The Last Dragon." Both those tunes makes me holler, and get up and dance. The young folk had better look out because Spider does that hip hop rap with soul. If you every have a chance to see this show, please treat yourself. You won't be sorry, you will be asking for more. My neice sends her greetings to both you and Spyder. I'll see you at the next show. |

Okeh Ady as promised mate, heres the small snippet taken from a brilliant 2 part story from a copy of Mr Dave Godins superb Hitsville USA mag. Volume 1. Number 2. 1965. The piece comes from a second part series by a very clued up big fan named as Mr. Clive Stone. 'Clives Report' part 2. he is visiting the motor city and is blown away by all the artists, backroom staff,Mr Gordy and family etc etc at taking time to make his trip a visit to remember. anyway...... 'arrangements were made for me to be picked up by Mrs Edwards and taken to the Fox theater for the WCHB Radio show. Which was running as a matinee. As Robert parked the car Mrs Edwards and myself were joined by Berry Gordy jnr. and Mrs Schiffer. We all went into the theater, well this was it-my first american show, and what a show. (cutting it short) on stage was Carolyn Crawford then came Martha and the Vandellas. It may of been december outside but there was a heat-wave inside. The audience was a wild one.And I did hear that outside people were dancing in the street. Wylie Tyler and Lester, ventriloquist and comedian were on. Next The Velvelettes were still looking for that proverbial needle in a haystack. after the velvelettes finished and the next act was introduced,an almighty roar broke forth from the audience that would of shamed any football crowd. The Contours ran onto the stage, gyrating and cartwheeling. They kept this up throughout numbers like DO YOU LOVE ME and CAN YOU JERK LIKE ME,and in response the audience showed that they could. It was a stupendous sight; I have never seen anything like it over here and dont suppose I ever will unless were blessed with a visit from the fabulous Contours'. Thats a small piece taken from one of the best items I have read regards a gig.I still get goose bumps reading these magazines. Thats all folks detroit mel ps I hope Mr Dave Godin and Mr Clive Stone do not mind or are offended if they see this article as I couldnt get in touch with anyone to ask permission. Thanks to you both........ |

boy do i remember, you forgot to mention that we drew "balloon cartoons",that were saying things like.."wonder who's gonna notice us first??"and we placed them on the wall over the actual balloons.also we live in a gated condominium complex, so we had everyone park at the grocery store (alpha beta i think)parking lot, then turn on there emergency blinker, and a "STRETCH LIMO" would pull up and bring them into the complex.. the "limo shuttle" went over as great as the "Balloons" |
