Bulee "Slim" Gaillard was born in Detroit on January 14, 1916 and died on February 26, 1991. His biggest hit was "Cement Mixer" which peaked at #5 on Billboard's Most-Played Juke Box Race Records chart in 1946. |

Mel, Yes, I got into Slim a few years ago. Talk about the original hep cats. I have a track of his where Charlie Parker and other bop players get introduced and start playing. Fun stuff. I posted this pic of the Jive singers before but here it is again. Slim Gaillard, Scatman Crothers and Bam Brown

Flat foot floogie with the floy-floy... True, one of the original hepcats. He was big with the beats. Kerouac included him in "On the Road". Kind of a zoot suit, comic/singer. I love him. There oughtta be a greatest hits. |
