I remember back in the early 70's he did Donny Hathaways "Love love love" (I think that was the title) and he did another song "After Hours" I LOVED THAT SONG!! Was he only known in the east coast? I have yet to run into anyone that has heard of him! In 1977 or 78 I bought what I think was his last album "Love and Conversation" after that the man vanished!!! Dose anyone remmber J.R Bailey? Does any one know what he is doing now...is he still alive for crying out loud? |

Unfortunately, J.R. died some years ago. Love Won't Wear Off was also a great song. |

Hi this is Kev-Lo hey jrlo yes indeed I remember J.R.Baily in fact I got to meet Mr.Baily some time ago in the 80's in Downstairs Record Store in here in Manhattan New York he was a nice person. I have some of tunes Like LOVE,LOVE,LOVE which is 32 years old right now as I'm posting this. His other cuts LOVE WON'T WHERE OFF, AFTER HOURS, and I"M ALL STRUNG OUT OVER YOU were just as great. Unfortunately we lost a great soul legend, But his music will always live on. |

He was a member of The Cadillacs from 1956 to 1972, had a #29 R&B hit on his own in 1972, "After Hours" and co-wrote "Everybody Plays The Fool" and "You Can Call Me Rover" for The Main Ingredient and "Soft Lights And You" for Isaac Hayes & Millie Jackson. His original version of "Love, Love, Love" charted #31 R&B in 1972. He died in 1980. |

His, 'Too late' on Mala from '68 is a luverly little mid-tempo number, which has had the occasional nod of approval within NSoul circles. There's also a Bell acetate floating around of him doing 'Tears (Nothing but tears)', which was released by Lee Roye on Decca...once again a NS spin. |

JR yeah I remember him. He wrote "Everybody Plays The Fool" the Main Ingrediant. He was also one hell of a singer himself, so to his son. If you're in the NY area Bobby J on WCBS was a friend and can provide you with more info on JR. |

He co-wrote a number of tunes with Kenny Williams, another guy known on the Northern soul circuit for his great Okeh single, "Come Back". Best, Mark |

Growing up, I only knew of J.R. from Love Won't Wear Off. I had completely forgotten about that song until I happened to fall into a Calla compilation that included it. It took me back to 1969 when I was a nine year old. Through Napster & Audio Galaxy, I discovered other songs of his, especially the sublime "Love, Love, Love". It's time for a complete anthology of this fine singers work to be released! If not for my research, I'd have never known of his roots that dated back to The Cadillacs. I'll tell you, the internet can be such a wonderful source of knowledge. Soulful Detroit DEFINITELY is a great source of knowledge as well!!! You guys, keep pumping out this great info. There's enough knowledge here to fill several research books in your own right. Thanks for the further enlightnment on the wonderful singer! What a singer!! |
