I saw "Third World" perform in Antigua, W.I. at Carnival one year.
They were awesome, best on the show! They sang my fave the O'Jays classic
"Now That We Found Love" and all their best hits, were up on stage rockin' it for a long time.
The audience went insane.

Third World performed live in Barcelona around 1995. I remember I was ungry when i read a report in the paper that says "the creators of Now That We Found Love in Barcelona", because this is originally by O'Jays, a group about practically never appears nothing in the spanish medias.

I keeps playing "Cool Meditation" and "Prisioner In The Street" many times from the eighties on!

Recently in a web-site i'm not sure if read that Thom Bell produced Third World or I-Threes (?) In any case, Thom Bell producing a reagge act! Also i remember the reagge female vocalist Sonia, have one album of Philly classics...

I think also in some other groups i don't have notice from many years ago:
-Silk (the act that recorded for PIR, featuring Debra Henry)
-Blackbyrds
-Gaz
-Jimmy Castor Bunch

Hello Everyone.

I know that ODYSSEY are still around as they tour the U.K. quite regularly.

I think in the States they are mainly remembered for "Native New Yorker" but in Britain they had a number of other really big hits in the late '70s and early '80s including ...

"Going Back to My Roots" ( a re-make of the LAMONT DOZIER song )

"Inside Out" ( a song produced by the same team who brought us "Watching You" by SLAVE .. and the two segue together beautifully )

and

"Use it Up Wear It Out" ( Which reached Number 1 on the U.K. Pop charts having been issued as the "B" side of "Don't Tell Me Tell Her (Its Over)" .. a song also done by PHYLIS HYMAN )

Ironically their record company (R.C.A.) didn't think that "Native New Yorker" would hit here as they thought we wouldn't understand the lyrics .. but we proved them wrong and it was a big ( and still fondly remembered ) hit.

I don't know why they were so big here compared to the States .. possibly it was because the two women in the group had originated from the Caribbean and as a result they found favour with the West-Indian/Jamaican music buyers here.

Rare Eart is still out there. Gil Bridges, one of the founding members of the group still tours with Rare Earth. They will be here in Santa Cruz this summer. Gil was in the Sunliners when I was with the group. Pete Rivera is in a group called Classic Rock All Stars and tours all over still.

I heard a rumour that James Mtume is currently doing music for TV but i haven't been able to confirm that.

Five Star are still around - they released a cd on some indie UK label in 2002 and even have their own website up. I came acroos it recently but i forgot the address :-(

BB & Q Band were like the funkiest band of the 80s. I think their last LP was in 1985. Singer Curtis Hairston also had a solo set out in 1986, but after both him as well as producer Jaques fred petrus died, I think it was pretty much over for the group.

Don't know what happened to the Rude Boys....suppose there was just too many male trio/quartets not making it back it the New Jack Swing days.

Five Star's website is right here... great site by the way...
http://www.fivestarchannel.com /

The Blackbyrds are touring regularly Europe and especially England, I saw them in London just 6 months ago... still very impressive... excellent band and music...

BB & Q Band like all other Jacques Fred Petrus projects died with him, (others were Peter Jacques Band, Macho, High Fashion who gave us two great singers with Alyson Williams and Me'lisa Morgan, and Change)

About Jimmy Castor Bunch I don't know where Jimmy is today but I remember seeing them (with the complete original line-up) live at SOB's on Varick Street in NYC back in 1994 or something like that... they were excellent and Jimmy looked like he'd been just unfrozen... he looked just like back in the early 70's!!
He went Neanderthal on our a.... with his monster Troglodyte.... LOOOOL
